Mark Weidemaier, who led the ZooKeepers to their hot start, and the team have parted ways
ASHEBORO — The Asheboro ZooKeepers are off to one of the best starts in organizational history and now they will have to keep up that success with a new manager.

Mark Weidemaier, who led the team to wins in six of their first seven games, is no longer the team manager. Pitching coach and Asheboro High School varsity head coach Jamey May has taken over the manager spot.
“It was the best decision moving forward for both parties,” said Asheboro General Manager Kory Dunbar on the switch. “We are wishing Mark nothing but the best.”
Dunbar said he could not comment on the reason for the switch and Weidemaier said he could not comment at this time.
May took over the manager spot a week ago Monday.

“He’s obviously the head coach at Asheboro High School and he’s had experience in the Old North State League the past few years,” Dunbar said. “His experience is a good fit.”
Dunbar said nothing else will change as the ZooKeepers fight for a Coastal Plain League championship.
“Really from an organizational standpoint, expectations don’t change,” Dunbar said. “The way we structure things doesn’t change or how they go about their day and what we have planned for them. We are fortunate to have Jamey May and we want the players to continue to do what they are doing and stay healthy.”
