Winter sports begin play in Randolph

FOOTBALL

Lucas Smith ran 24 times for 133 yards and 2 touchdowns as Eastern Randolph beat Thomasville 40-19 in the third round of the 1-A state playoffs. Carter Revelle threw for 210 yards and 2 touchdowns while also running for a touchdown. Nicah Taylor had 10 catches for 129 yards and a touchdown. DeSean Shamburger had a touchdown catch. Kobe Walker added a rushing touchdown. 

 

BOYS BASKETBALL

*Jerquarius Stanback scored 26 points and Camden Walker had 22 in Asheboro’s 70-43 win over Southwestern Randolph. David Rodriguez added 13 points for the Blue Comets.

Marcus Robertson led the Cougars with 17 points and Nathan Ellis had 14.

*Dominic Payne poured in 33 points as Trinity thumped Albemarle 71-42. Brandon Campbell had 12 points while Grayson Earls had 10 and Jacob Hodges 9.

*Gabe McKoy scored 19 points in Providence Grove’s 48-46 win over Chatham Charter. James Ellis added 12 points for the Patriots.          

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

*Nevaeh Staples scored 10 points in Uwharrie Charter’s 60-11 rout of River Mill Academy. Chloe Painter had 9 points and Laney Thomas had 8.

*Caressa King led three players in double figures with 20 points as Southwestern Randolph rolled over Asheboro 67-33. Kenzie Martin scored 17 points and Jordin George had 15.

Sion Murrain led Asheboro with 10 points and Kimry Comer had 9.

 

WRESTLING

*Reece Poe (113), Janaskel Perez Mortera (120), Michael Jaimes (138), Erick Lopez Rabadan (165) and Jose Valasquez-Mercado (285) won in Southwestern Randolph’s 51-25 loss to Southern Guilford.

*Kaydence Lennon, Bearik Bigelow, Alex Patino, Oscar Zelaya, Marco Benitez, Jaylon Moore, Adam Curry, Luke Hughes, Quentez Butler and Cuillermo Santos all went 3-0 as Asheboro swept a quad match.

*Ethan Hines, Brennan Worrell, Jack McArthur, Lorenzo Alston, Carson Robinson, Caden Bond, Jaden Maness and Devonte Harrison all went 3-0 as Uwharrie Charter swept a quad match at Cary.

*Eastern Randolph went 1-1 in a tri-match at Randleman. Lucas Kennedy, Trevor Crabtree, David Lambright, Jamie Crabtree, James Combs and Joshua Watson all went 2-0 for the Wildcats. Houston Harrelson was 1-1 while Christian Cabeza was 1-1.

*Randleman was 1-1 in its tri-match. Kolby Garner, Braxton Walker and Christian McLeod were all 2-0 for the Tigers. Jaxton Strickland, Jason Tadeo, Garrett Dycus, Jesus Gordillo-Robinson, Kobe Kinley, Nathan Rollins and Alex Raymundo were all 1-1.

*Mortera, Nabor Hernandez Perez, Preston Roper, Christopher Munoz-Esparza, Erick Lopez Rabadan, Rogelio Tejada Fuentes, Wyatt Williams, Jose Flores and Reece won as Southwestern Randolph beat Providence Grove 58-16.

Connell Moss, Logan Armfield and Ashton Davis won for Providence Grove.

*Aiden Burkholder, Edgar Vasquez, Spencer May, Brayden Hall, Levi Dennis, Jaden Alllred, Charles Schaefer, Zane Schloemer, Lawson Coltrane, Gavin Hardister and Joseph Trahan all won in Trinity’s 57-15 victory over Wheatmore. 

Zack Starkweather, Dominic Hittepole and Noah Browning won for Wheatmore.

 

BOYS SWIMMING

*Wheatmore’s winner in a quad meet at the Kernersville YMCA was Colten Osborne (200 free).

 

GIRLS SWIMMING

*Wheatmore’s winners in a quad meet at the Kernersville YMCA were the 200 medley relay (Paislee Hollifield, Emily Cribbs, Sydney Hall, Ava Williamson); Hollifield (200 IM, 100 free); Hall (100 butterfly, 50 free); Sophie Williamson (100 back); Cribbs (100 breast) and the 400 free relay (Sophie Williamson, Ava Williamson, Hollifield, Hall).
