Uwharrie Charter’s dominating season on the mat keeps right on rolling.

 

The Eagles, fresh off winning the 1-A dual team state championship, easily won the East Regional individual tournament at home on Saturday. Uwharrie Charter compiled 251 points, 99 better than second place North East Carolina Prep.

 

Six of the Eagles won their weight classes and a total of 10 qualified for next week’s state tournament in Greensboro.

 

1-A East Regional

 

Junior Ethan Hines (44-6) won at 106, senior Aldo Hernandez (49-2) won at 138, freshman Lorenzo Alston (51-2) won at 145, junior Carson Robinson (43-6) won at 160, senior Grayson Roberts (48-4) won at 170 and junior Jadon Maness (23-5) won at 195. 

 

Other qualifiers for the Eagles were sophomore Brandon Jordan (second, 126), junior Jack McArthur (second, 132), junior Alec Millikan (third, 152) and Corbin Grissom (second, 182).

 

Eastern Randolph had five qualifiers — freshman James Crabtree (third, 106), junior Carter Self (fourth, 120), senior Adrian Lopez (third, 126), senior Bryce Foland (second, 160) and junior Ian Moore (third, 220).

 

2-A Mid-East Regional

 

Southwestern Randolph sophomore Jose Flores (26-2) won at 220, Trinity junior Spencer May (45-6) won at 120 and Wheatmore freshman Dominic Hittepole (40-5) won at 160.

 

Other county qualifiers were, by school:

Providence Grove — Sophomore Mitchell Freeman (fourth, 152), senior Colton Wood (second, 285).

Randleman — Senior Kaelob Pearce (fourth, 132), sophomore Braxton Walker (second, 195).

Southwestern Randolph — Junior Janaksel Perez (fourth, 106), senior Luke White (third, 138), sophomore Mason Leonard (third, 145).

Trinity — Junior Brayden Hall (second, 113), junior Levi Dennis (third, 126), sophomore Gavin Hardister (second, 182), senior Joey Smith (third, 220).

Wheatmore — Junior Trey Swaney (second, 132), senior Randy Spencer (fourth, 195).

 

Trinity was second in the team standings and Southwestern Randolph was fourth.

 

3-A Mid-West Regional

 

Asheboro senior Diego Gutierrez (37-1) won at 120. Three other Blue Comets qualified — senior Xavier Santos (fourth, 113), senior Christian Diaz (fourth, 160) and senior Eddie Soto (fourth, 195).

 

1-A / 2-A Indoor Track state meet

 

Randleman senior Iniyah Mitchell was third in the women's shot put.

 

3-A swimming state meet

 

Asheboro’s Megan Becker was second in the 100 freestyle and fourth in the 200 freestyle. 

 

The Blue Comets’ women’s 200 free relay (Madison Burnette, Fiona Wolfe-Roberts, Maci Columbia, Becker) finished 10th. The 400 free relay (Wolfe-Roberts, Burnette, Columbia, Becker) was ninth.
