SWR tops UCA in volleyball to take conference lead

Southwestern Randolph outlasted  Uwharrie Charter Academy in four sets to take the lead in the PAC-7. Meanwhile, the SWR soccer team dropped a close affair with Randleman for its first confer-ence loss of the season. Here’s a look at those contests and more from last week.

 

VOLLEYBALL

 

*Gracie Hodgin had 17 kills while Madelyn Smith had 14 kills and 12 digs in Southwestern Randolph’s 25-12, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23 win over Uwharrie Charter. Riley Key had 13 kills and a pair of blocks. Raegan LeRoy had 26 assists and 11 digs. Molly Smith had 22 assists. Paige Hughes had 3 kills and 4 blocks.

 

*Sarabeth Johnson had 17 kills, 18 digs and 4 aces as Trinity outlasted Eastern Randolph 25-23, 15-25, 18-25, 26-24, 15-12. Kaitlyn McCoy had 14 kills, 11 digs and 4 aces. Avalynn Johnson had 31 assists and 12 digs. Karrington Batten had 10 kills and 4 aces while Katelyn Hill had 23 assists.

 

*Riley Mazzarone had 40 assists and Mailey Way had 28 digs in Providence Grove’s 25-23, 20-25, 14-25, 25-15, 15-9 loss to Wheatmore. Addie Morgan had 14 kills and Lara Wiseman had 8.

 

*Addie Flinchum had 22 kills and 4 aces to help Eastern Randolph outlast Asheboro 18-25, 25-11, 25-16, 18-25, 18-16. Logann Beaver had 9 kills and Ziera Watson had 6. Cora Sparrow had 7 blocks and Kenly Whitaker had 44 assists. Kaylee Courtemanch and Watson each had 15 digs.

 

Ellen Long led Asheboro with 17 kills while Sion Murrain had 16 kills and 12 digs. Lia George had 12 kills while Eva Vuncannon contributed 21 assists and 4 aces. Anna Grace LeRoy had 26 assists and Piper Davidson had 12 digs.

 

*Lizah Moore had 10 kills, 3 blocks and 4 digs in Uwharrie Charter’s 25-15, 25-11, 25-22 sweep of Richmond County. Chloe Painter had 6 kills, 19 assists, 9 digs, 3 aces and 2 blocks.

 

*Camryn Vickery had 20 assists and 6 digs in Randleman’s 27-25, 25-17, 25-20 loss to Northern Guilford. Ava Jones had seven kills, an ace and a block. Haley Hinshaw 6 kills, 8 digs and 3 aces. Mollie Hall and Camden Scott each had 5 kills while Karli Kennington got 17 digs.

 

*Murrain had 12 kills and 2 blocks in Asheboro’s 25-21, 25-23, 27-25 sweep of Ledford. Long had 11 kills and 4 blocks.

 

*Hodgin had 15 kills and 3 aces as Southwestern Randolph swept Providence Grove 25-10, 25-16, 25-14. Smith had 10 kills and 9 digs. Raegan LeRoy had 28 assists and Coley Shiflet had 17 digs. Jade Matias had 7 kills and 2 blocks.

 

*Hinshaw had 18 kills and 8 digs in Randleman’s 25-16, 25-10, 25-16 sweep of Eastern Randolph. Scott produced 10 kills and 17 digs. Vickery had 37 assists while Kennington had 14 digs and Kadie Green 9. Ava Jones had 7 kills and 6 digs. Haleigh Baity had 4 kills and Alicia Price gad 4 digs.

 

SOCCER

 

*Nathan Murillo scored two goals while Cristian Garcia and Chris Lopez got one each in Randleman’s 4-3 win over Southwestern Randolph. Roberto Barillas had three assists.

 

*Jaydon DeNamur tallied both goals in Uwharrie Charter’s 4-2 loss to Trinity. Israel Jaramillo had an assist. Aiden Allred was named man of the match for the Eagles and DeNamur was second.

 

*Diego Bustamante scored three goals in Asheboro’s 5-1 win over Cape Fear. Cristian Raygadas and Ozmar Martinez netted the other goals. Martinez had two assists while Tyler Smith and Daniel Resendez each had one.

 

*Laurel Suarez Ortiz scored two goals in Wheatmore’s 4-2 win over Thomasville. Hayden Hemming and Owen Bailey scored the other goals. Ryan Black had an assist.

 

*Owen Leonard scored three goals and Francisco Vinces had two in Randleman’s 8-2 win over Uwharrie Charter. Aaron Vazquez, Cristian Garcia and Roberto Barillas scored the other goals. Garcia had four assists. Mitchell Carranza, Alex Raymundo and Vinces each had one assist.

 

DeNamur scored both Uwharrie Charter goals. Jaramillo had an assist.

 

*Fernando Hernandez and David Dominguez each scored two goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 4-0 win over Eastern Randolph. Diego Matias and Janalsel Perez each had an assist.

 

TENNIS

 

*Allie Popp, Sammie Parks, Lindsi Brown, Larson Kelly and Bethany Latham won in singles as Southwestern Randolph beat Trinity 5-1 to complete a weather-suspended match from Aug. 24. In the regularly scheduled match, Caroline Farlow, Popp, Parks, Brown, Latham and Kelly swept the singles in a 9-0 win. The doubles teams of Jurhona Robinson/Brown, Latham/Farlow and Jillian Cox/Emily Hamilton also swept their contests.

 

*Popp, Parks, Brown, Kelly, Latham and Farlow swept the singles in Southwestern Randolph’s 8-1 win over Randleman. The teams of Kelly/Farlow and Jillian Cox/Latham won in doubles.

 

*Parks, Latham and Farlow won singles matches in Southwestern Randolph’s 5-4 loss to North Stanly.
