SWR tops Patriots in early showdown; Asheboro stays unbeaten

VOLLEYBALL

 

*Madeline Smith and Riley Key paced a balanced attack with six kills each as Southwestern Randolph swept past Providence Grove 25-22, 25-16, 25-21 in a PAC-7 showdown. Gracie Hodgin had 6 kills and 2 aces for the Cougars. Julie Johnson had 4 kills.

 

Emma Mazzarone led Providence Grove with 9 kills while Paige Needham had 7. Dyyanna Wade had six kills.

 

*McCoy had 10 kills and 8 digs in Southwestern Randolph’s 25-23, 25-16, 25-17 sweep of Trinity. Karrington Batten had 7 kills and Madison Burgiss had 18 assists. Faith Powell had 11 digs and 2 aces. 

 

*Mazzarone and Wade each had 16 kills as Providence Grove rallied for a tight 22-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-11 win over Uwharrie Charter. Needham added 11 kills for the Patriots.

 

Dacia Lowery led UCA with a game-high 20 kills. Lizah Moore had 12 kills and Chloe Painter had 10.

 

*Chloe Dixon had 11 kills and 15 digs as Randleman outlasted Eastern Randolph 25-27, 25-14, 25-12, 23-25, 15-12. Gabi Carter had 7 kills and 18 digs. Karli Kennington had 24 digs and 5 aces. Kenzie Roach had 24 assists while Camryn Vickery had 15 assists. Camden Scott had 8 kills while Mollie Hall and Haley Hinshaw had 6 apiece.

 

*Dixon, Hinshaw and Scott all had six kills in Randleman’s 25-17, 25-20, 25-18 sweep of Oak Grove. Carter had five kills. Roach had 14 assists and 9 digs. Vickey added 9 assists and 5 aces. Kennington had 18 digs while Dixon had 15 and Hinshaw 14.

 

*Scott pounded 14 kills in Randleman’s 16-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-12 win over Wheatmore. Roach and Vickery each had 14 assists for the Tigers. Kennington had 32 digs while Dixon had 16 digs and 4 kills. Hinshaw contributed 15 kills and 4 kills.

 

Haley Pease led Wheatmore with 14 kills, 8 digs and 3 blocks. Taylor Richardson had 8 kills, 18 digs and 3 blocks.

 

*Lucy Lockwood had 7 kills, 3 aces and 2 blocks in Wheatmore’s 25-23, 10-25, 25-17, 25-21 win over East Davidson. Kynnedi Routh had 6 kills, 17 digs and 3 aces. Hailey Green had 4 aces, 9 digs and 15 assists.

 

*Kaitlyn McCoy had 13 kills and 4 aces in Trinity’s 25-21, 25-16, 25-21 win over Wheatmore. Sarabeth Johnson had 7 kills and 7 aces. Faith Powell had 11 digs and 3 aces. Madison Burgess had 21 assists and an ace. Ella Johnson contributed 9 digs, 2 blocks and an ace.

 

SOCCER

 

*Cristian Benitez scored a hat trick in undefeated Asheboro’s 5-2 win over Trinity. Calvin Smith and Cristian Cruz also scored for the Blue Comets.

 

*Cruz scored two goals in Asheboro’s 4-1 win over Northwood. He also scored the lone goal in the Blue Comets’ 1-0 win over Randleman.

 

*Collin Burgess tallied a pair of goals in Wheatmore’s 5-0 win over East Davidson. Kooper Grant, Riley Queen and Jayden Martin also got goals for the Warriors.

 

*JJ DeNamur, Israel Jaramillo and Jake Perreira scored goals in Uwharrie Charter's 3-2 win over Richmond County.

 

GIRLS GOLF

 

*Salem Lee had another solid day of golf in a Mid-Piedmont Conference match, shooting a 36 to earn medalist honors.

 

*In another match the following day, Lee shot a 35 to once again claim medalist honors in a three-way where the Blue Comets beat Providence Grove and Eastern Randolph. Carolina Wright of Providence Grove shot a 43.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

 

*Eastern Randolph’s Brecken Snotherly, running as an individual, blazed to victory in a time of 18 minutes in a meet between Asheboro and Southwestern Randolph. Asheboro’s Seth Hydzik won the boys race in 17:10, holding off the Cougars’ Aiden Pritchard by 11 seconds.

 

Asheboro swept the team titles.
