SWR announces first Hall of Fame class

Lots of volleyball action plus Asheboro and Southwestern Randolph continued their impressive soccer starts. But first, Southwestern Randolph began a Hall of Fame at it school. Let’s see who’s in the opening class.

 

Southwestern Randolph has joined several other local high schools in install-ing a Hall of Fame for its sports pro-grams. See how many of these names you recognize from the Cougars’ first class:

VOLLEYBALL

 

*Riley Key had 14 kills, 3 aces and 2 blocks in Southwestern Randolph’s 18-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-13 win over Asheboro. Gracie Hodgin contributed 13 kills and 12 digs. Madelyn Smith got 10 kills and 19 digs. Raegan LeRoy had 26 assists and 11 digs. Coley Shiflet had 25 digs and 3 aces.

 

Sion Murrain led Asheboro with 15 kills and had 3 digs. Lia George had 10 kills and 5 digs. Anna-Grace LeRoy had 17 assists and 7 digs. Piper Davidson had 20 digs and an ace. Ellen Long had 5 kills, 5 blocks and an ace.

 

*Camden Scott had 12 kills, 8 digs and 4 aces in Randleman’s 25-15, 25-19, 25-17 sweep of Ledford. Camryn Vickery had 25 assists and 5 aces. Haley Hinshaw had 7 kills, 6 digs and 3 aces. Karli Kennington had 14 digs and 5 aces. Haleigh Baty had four kills. Kadie Green had 6 digs and an ace.

 

*Addie Flinchum had 14 kills, 15 digs and 3 aces in Eastern Randolph’s 25-16, 25-11, 25-11 sweep of South Davidson. Ziera Watson had 6 blocks and 9 digs. Kenly Whitaker had 26 assists and 6 digs. Kaylie Courtemanche had 19 digs while Katelyn Brown added 14. 

 

*Key had 13 kills and 3 blocks in Southwestern Randolph’s 25-20, 25-12, 25-21 win over Providence Grove. Smith added 10 kills and 7 digs. LeRoy had 21 assists and Shiflet got 21 digs.

 

*Vickery had 48 assists while Scott had 23 kills and 16 digs in Randleman’s 25-20, 25-17, 25-23 sweep of Eastern Randolph. Mollie Hall and Hinshaw, who had 15 digs, both got 10 kills. Kennington had 27 digs, 3 aces and a kill. Green had 10 digs.

 

*Kaitlyn McCoy had 17 kills, 14 digs and 2 blocks in Trinity’s 25-22, 25-15, 25-20 win over Wheatmore. Avalynn Johnson had 21 assists and 12 digs. Sarabeth Johnson contributed 8 kills, 12 digs and 6 aces. Katelyn Hill had 17 digs and 4 aces. Natalie Franko had 7 kills and 2 blocks.

 

Taylor Richardson led Wheatmore with 9 kills and 2 blocks while Lucy Lockwood produced 7 kills. Kynnedi Routh had 4 aces and 3 kills.

 

*Sarabeth Johnson had 19 kills as Trinity overcame Central Davidson 25-20, 17-25, 25-16, 21-25, 15-7. McCoy had 18 kills and 17 digs for the Bulldogs. Franko contributed 10 kills and 7 blocks. Avery Moffitt had 10 kills and a pair of blocks. Hill had 21 digs and 4 aces. Avalynn Johnson had 44 assists.

 

*Flinchum had 15 kills, 13 digs and 3 blocks in Eastern Randolph’s 25-23, 25-17, 17-25, 25-17 win over Eastern Alamance. Logann Beaver had 9 kills and 5 aces. Whitaker had 34 assists and 4 kills. Watson had 13 digs while Cora Sparrow and Mirianna Corea each had three kills.

 

*Riley Mazzarone had 40 assists as Providence Grove turned back Ledford 26-24, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21. Peyton Whitaker had 11 kills. Maggie Freeman and Addie Morgan both had 10 kills. Mailey Way had 28 digs.

 

* Scott had 16 kills and 13 digs in Randleman’s 25-15, 25-8, 25-17 sweep of Wheatmore. Hinshaw had 11 kills and 15 digs. Vickery had 34 assists, 5 digs and 3 aces. Kennington had 18 digs and 3 aces. Green had 10 digs. Baity got 5 kills and Ava Jones had 4.

 

*Lizah Moore had 12 kills, 4 digs, 2 blocks and an assist as Uwharrie Charter downed Providence Grove 25-20, 25-13, 25-23. Kayden Faglier had 9 kills and 5 blocks. Chloe Painter had 25 assists, 10 digs, 6 kills and 2 aces.

 

*Key had 11 kills while Gracie Hodgin and Smith got 9 each in Southwestern Randolph’s 25-19, 25-13, 25-19 win over Trinity. LeRoy had 19 assists and 2 aces. Shiflet had 10 digs and 2 aces. Lileigh Payne had nine digs.

 

SOCCER

 

*Diego Bustamante scored two goals in Asheboro’s 3-1 win over Western Alamance. Ozmar Martinez tallied the other goal. Carlos Gonzalez had an assist.

 

*Hayden Hemming scored two goals and Kooper Grant got one in Wheatmore’s 3-3 tie with East Davidson. 

 

*David Dominguez got the lone goal and Fernando Hernandez had the assist in Southwestern Randolph's 1-0 win over Montgomery Central.

 

*Martinez scored a pair of goals in Asheboro’s 6-0 win over Eastern Randolph. Alexander Arce, Abraham Cabral and Tyler Smith tallied the other goals. Alan Alcantara, Arath Gomez, Alexander Perez, Rudy Huerta, Bustamante and Gonzalez each had an assist.

 

*Hernandez scored two goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 5-0 win over Bishop McGuinness. Joseph Avina, Bernadino Zuniga and Dominguez scored the other goals. 

 

TENNIS

 

*Allie Popp, Sammie Parks, Lindsi Brown, Bethany Latham, Larson Kelly and Emily Hamilton swept the singles in Southwestern Randolph’s 9-0 win over Randleman. The teams of Popp/Brown, Parks/Latham and Caroline Farlow/Kelly took the doubles.

 

*Noel Swaim, Abby Greeson, Caroline Tidwell and Elizabeth Shue won in singles as Providence Grove edged Asheboro 5-4. The team of Swaim/Greeson won in doubles.

 

Blair Thomas and Malaika Khan won singles contests for Asheboro. The doubles teams of Charlotte Smith/Malaika Khan and Yusha Khan/Franchesca also won.

 

*Kelly, Brown, Latham and Farlow won in singles as Southwestern Randolph beat Asheboro 6-3. The doubles teams of Parks/Kelly and Latham/Farlow also won.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

 

*Wheatmore’s Zach Hazelwood took first place in a three-team meet with Asheboro Hybrid Academy and John Yowell Academy. Arabella Shortridge of Asheboro Hybrid won the girls race.

 

AUTO RACING

 

*Junior Miller, John Paul Linville, Donald Tucker, Lance Childers and Riggs Racing were inducted into the Caraway Speedway Wall of Fame.

 

Jamie York won the 58-lap Late Models race. The length of the race was a tribute to the track’s 58 years of competition.
