RHS sweep of UCA puts Tigers in control of PAC

Here’s a recap of a week shortened by rain as teams headed into Spring Break:

 

BASEBALL

*Randleman swept a pitching-dominated doubleheader with Uwharrie Charter, 1-0 and 3-1 in nine innings. 

Seth Way’s sacrifice fly and Jake Riddle’s shutout pitching carried the day for Randleman in the opener. Way’s two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth gave the Tigers a dramatic win and a conference sweep. Braxton Walker got the win in relief.

Alex Carver pitched well for Uwharrie Charter in the opener.

*Sam Asbill struck out 10 in 5 2/3 innings as Eastern Randolph beat Southwestern Randolph 7-4. Cade McCallum got the last four outs, striking out two, to get the save. Carlos Cordero and Bryson Marley each had a single, double and two RBIs. 

Jake Lunsford took the loss for Southwestern Randolph.

*Brett Smith scattered eight hits and struck out six in six innings as Uwharrie Charter held off Providence Grove 4-2. Logan Zephir finished up for the save. Grat Dalton and Zephir both had a hit and RBI. Trey Kennedy had two hits, including a double.

Riley Gaines had a single, double and RBI for Providence Grove. Jayten Beasley had a hit and RBI. Canaan Sheppard got the loss.

*Parker Kines had three hits in Wheatmore’s 4-3 win over West Davidson. Ayden Byrd had two hits and an RBI. Trey Mitchell had a hit and RBI. Rowan Wagner had a sacrifice fly.

*Jonah Campbell pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts as Southwestern Randolph blanked Eastern Randolph 7-0. Zack Scruggs had two hits, including a two-run triple, while Brady Armfield had an inside-the-park home run. Lunsford also had two hits.

McCallum took the loss.

 

SOFTBALL

*Devon Kelly had a pair of doubles and four RBIs in Providence Grove’s 13-4 rout of East Davidson. Callie Lambert had a home run, single and RBI. Lara Wiseman had two hits and an RBI. Campbell Ziemba pitched a complete game with five strikeouts.

*Macie Crutchfield, Madelyn Smith and Lillian Payne all had two hits in Southwestern Randolph’s 5-0 loss to North Davidson. Alyssa Harris took the loss. 

*Harris had two hits and two RBIs as Southwestern Randolph edged Uwharrie Charter 2-1. Hayleigh Thompson also had two hits. Macie Crutchfield pitched a five-hitter with six strikeouts.

Kenzie Hill had a double and RBI for Uwharrie Charter. Molly Bulla hurled a five-hitter with 13 strikeouts.

*Kylie Hemrick had three hits, including a double, and RBI in Wheatmore’s 12-0 pounding of Trinity. Maddie Nichols had two hits and four RBIs. Skylar Pittman had a single, double and two RBIs. Carmen Turgeon and Savanah Heiney each had a hit and two RBIs. Adalyn Boles had a double and RBI.

*Kaylee Phillips had a hit and three RBIs in Randleman’s 8-3 win over Eastern Randolph. Teanna Bostic had a hit and two RBIs. Lyric Chriscoe had two hits, including a solo home run. Kinzie Ivey threw a seven-hitter with nine strikeouts. 

Logann Beaver had a single, double and RBI for Eastern Randolph while Ayanna Mears tripled in a run.

*Maddie Strider two triples and three RBIs in Southwestern Randolph’s 16-0 rout of Trinity. Hayleigh Thompson got a double, single and two RBIs. Kami Dunn had three hits and an RBI. Alyssa Harris had three RBIs. Micah Wilson and Chloe Eudy threw a combined three-inning no-hitter.

 

SOCCER

*Ellie Garrison scored two goals and became the state’s career leader goals with 219 in Wheatmore’s 6-3 loss to Bishop McGuinness. Kynnedi Routh scored the other goal while Maggie Messner and Natalie Bowman had assists.

*Jaira Arellano scored three goals in Asheboro’s 7-0 rout of East Rowan. Gigi Flores had two goals while Annissa Goldston and Chloe Chammaly each had one. Penny and Arellano both had two assists. Abby Becker and Brigdet Diaz Lopez each got one assist.

*Taryn Waugh scored three goals in Providence Grove’s 5-1 win over Trinity. Anaeli Puente Garza and Sarah Majors got the other goals. Brooke Ingram, Patience Keller, Garza and Waugh had assists.

*Macy Allred a big night with five goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 7-5 victory over Eastern Randolph. Lacy Griffin and Bethany Latham scored the other goals. Allred and Griffin had assists.

*Kendal Jarrell scored three goals as Uwharrie Charter beat Eastern Randolph 9-0. Jazmin Palma and Reece Craven scored two goals each. Abbie Gudino and Macy Hartley scored the other goals. Maggie O’Briant had two assist, Lily Charlesworth, and Palma each had an assist.

 

TENNIS

*The doubles team of Jackson Lawver/Carson Jones won in Providence Grove’s 8-1 loss to Bishop McGuinness.

 

GOLF 

*Ryan Marshall won medalist honors with a 35 as Wheatmore won a PAC quad-match. Cooper Wright of Providence Grove shot 43 while Trinity’s Bo Earnhardt and Wheatmore’s Connor Gordon tied for third at 44.

 

BASKETBALL

*Asheboro’s Jerquarius Stanback was named to the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association all-state team. The Appalachian State commit averaged 24.6 points and 11.3 rebounds per game.
