Randleman’s balance leads to win over Asheboro

Randleman showed off its team approach in a victory over Asheboro in basketball, while many wrestlers picked up accolades in local quad matches. Here’s a look at some local sports highlights from last week. 

 

Boys Basketball

*Andrew Thomas scored 8 points while Jayten Beasley had 7 points and 7 rebounds in Providence Grove’s 49-30 loss to East Davidson. 

*Greg Price led a balanced scoring effort with 16 points as Randleman downed Asheboro 70-56. Chase Farlow had 15 points while Jireh Price had 12. Tyshaun Goldston and Pacey Wagner each scored 11 points.

Jerquarius Stanback led Asheboro with 33 points and Camden Walker had 15.

*Dominic Payne scored 30 points but Trinity fell 70-63 to Central Davidson. Grayson Earls had 13 points and Brandon Campbell had 12.

*Parker Kines scored 12 points and Gavin Strickland had 10 in Wheatmore’s 57-42 loss to East Davidson.

*Nathan Ellis and Marcus Robertson each scored 15 points in Southwestern Randolph’s 60-49 loss to North Stanly.

*Stanback scored 25 points and Walker added 16 in Asheboro’s 68-51 win over Southwestern Randolph.

Robertson led SWR with 13 points while Brayden Chapman and Ellis each had 11.

*Sammy Chriscoe scored 13 points in Uwharrie Charter’s 53-33 loss to North Stanly.

*Kines scored 19 points, Wyatt Stepp added 14 and Weston Driggers had 11 in Wheatmore’s 50-49 loss to South Davidson.

*Payne scored 28 points in Trinty’s 56-44 loss to Oak Grove.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

*Jada Dixon scored 16 points and Asia Steverson had 10 in Providence Grove’s 53-41 win over East Davidson.

*Audra Petty scored 24 points in Randleman’s 64-47 win over Asheboro. Chenleigh Robinson had 16 points and Bella Byman added 9.

Sion Murrain and Laneane Scherer each scored 15 points for Asheboro.

*Emory Johnson scored 12 points in Uwharrie Charter’s 55-21 loss to Bishop McGuinness.

*Kenly Whitaker had 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in Eastern Randolph’s 52-32 loss to Chatham Charter. Ziera Watson had 8 points and Mariana Corea grabbed 14 rebounds.

*Petty scored 27 points and Byman had 10 in Randleman’s 55-30 win over Ledford.

*Caressa King scored 19 points and Jordin George had 16 in Southwestern Randolph’s 66-30 win over Asheboro.

Ellen Long led Asheboro with 10 points.

 

WRESTLING

*Bearik Bigelow won at 120 pounds and Luke Hughes won at 190 for host Asheboro in the Cold Turkey Invitational on Nov. 25. Others who placed for the Blue Comets were Nick DesRoches (2nd, 126), Alex Patino (2nd, 132), Marco Benitez (3rd, 144), Jaylon Moore (3rd, 150), Adam Curry (3rd, 157), Owen Chidester (4th, 175), Nico Otero (2nd, 215) and Guillermo Santos (2nd, 285).

Other local Cold Turkey Invitational results:

— Eastern Randolph: David Lambright won at 126. Others who placed were Joshua Wilson (2nd, 106), Trever Crabtree (2nd, 120), Jamie Crabtree (4th, 132), Houston Harrelson (4th, 157) and Christian Cabeza (3rd, 175).

— Providence Grove: Placers were Connell Moss (4th, 106), Aiden Poplin (4th, 113), Ashton Davis (2nd, 150) and Matthew Signor (3rd, 190).

— SW Randolph: Erick Lopez Rabadan won at 165, Michael Jaimes won at 138, Ty Dixon won at 1444 and Jose Flores won at 285. Others from the Cougars who placed were Reece Poe (3rd, 106), Janaskel Perez (3rd, 120), Nabor Hernandez (3rd, 126) and Wyatt Williams (4th, 215).

*Trinity swept host Southwestern Randolph, Asheboro and Bishop McGuinness in a quad match. Going 3-0 for the Bulldogs were Aiden Burkholder, Edgar Vasquez, Spencer May, Brayden Hall, Levi Dennis, Jaden Allred, Charles Schaefer, Baron Justice, Lawson Coltrane and Gavin Hardister. Joseph Trahan was 2-1 and Kendall Miles won his single match.

— Southwestern Randolph’s Rogelio Tejeda Fuentes and Flores were 3-0 in the quad. Poe, Nathan Johnson, Hernandez, Jaimes, Ty Dixon, Rabadan and Ismael Tejeda Fuentes were 2-1.

— Curry and Hughes were 3-0 for Asheboro in the quad. Bigelow, Sammy Salinas, Chidester, Otero and Moore were all 2-1.

*Ethan Hines (113), Brennan Worrell (120), Rick Riccardella (126), Caleb Saldana (132), Jack McArthur (138), Jair Ulloa (144). Lorenzo Alston (150), Carson Robinson (157), Alek Millikan (165), Ryan Alvarez (175), Caden Bond (190), Michael Shropshire (215) and Jaden Maness (285) all won as Uwharrie Charter shut out Providence Grove 74-0 in a dual match.
