Randleman falls in state playoffs

One football team moved on, another’s season came to an end as the state foot-ball playoffs continued last week. Here’s a recap plus some other playoff results in different sports.

 

1A 

Eastern Randolph 39 

Hayesville 7 

Lucas Smith ran for 139 yards and a pair of touchdowns as No. 3 Eastern Randolph pounded No. 14 Hayesville 39-10 in the second round of the 1-A state playoffs. 

 

Quarterback Carter Revelle and Kobe Walker each had a rushing touchdown for the Wildcats, who improved to 11-1. Revelle also threw two touchdown passes, both to Nicah Taylor. Smith also had a pair of two-point conversion receptions. 

 

2A 

Forest Hills 36 

Randleman 14 

John Kirkpatrick threw two touchdown passes in Randleman’s 36-14 loss to Forest Hills in the second round of the 2-A state playoffs.

 

Tyshaun Goldston and Amari Ferdna each had a touchdown catch. Edison Hernandez ran for 85 yards on 25 carries. The Tigers ended the season with a 10-2 record. 

 

SOCCER

David Lopez Dominguez and Fernando Hernandez scored the goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 3-2 loss to Lincoln Charter in the third round of the state playoffs.

 

The Cougars concluded their season with 21-4-1.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

Wheatmore’s Zach Hazelwood fin-ished 14th in the boys’ 2-A state champi-onship with a time of 17:19.96.  

 

- Faith Christian’s Karrie Gaines won the girls’ North Carolina Christian School Association state championship. 

 

It was the third state title of her career. Her other titles were in 2020 and 2021.
