Post 45 plays for a spot in the World Series

AMERICAN LEGION

 

*Post 45 saw its bid for the 2023 state championship end with a 5-0 loss to Rowan County in Game 5 of their Area III best-of-five semifinal series. But Post 45’s season continues. As the host of the Southeast Regional, Post 45 has a berth and will be playing for a spot in the upcoming World Series in Shelby.

 

The first game in the regional for Post 45 will be Aug. 2 against Tennessee at 7:30 p.m.

 

*Hayden Simmerson’s walk-off grand slam lifted Rowan County to a dramatic 6-5 win over High Point in the Area III championship game. Both teams advanced to the state tournament.

 

COASTAL PLAIN LEAGUE

 

*Carter French and Jarrett Pokrovsky each had an RBI single in the Zookeepers’ 12-2 loss to Martinsville.

 

*Owen Blackledge and Jared Beebe each collected a two-run double in the Zookeepers’ 12-6 win over High Point-Thomasville. Jay Dillard had a three-run homer and Beebe also homered.

 

Matt Kemp, a former Randleman star, had a scoreless relief appearance.

 

*Beebe had the lone RBI in the Zookeepers’ 5-1 loss to High Point-Thomasville. Ethan Snyder struck out 10 in five innings.

 

*Win Scott was perfect through five innings and finished with a seven-inning four-hitter as the Zookeepers run-ruled Holly Springs 12-1. Scott struck a Zookeepers season-high 11 and walked a pair of batters. Lleyton Lackey led the offense with a three-run homer, his first of the summer. Jacob Budzik smacked a two-run double. Cole Laskowski, Todd Hudson and Blackledge all had a run-scoring doubles. Dallas Callahan produced a sacrifice fly and Beebe drove in a run on a fielder’s choice grounder. 

 

BROOKS BRANNON UPDATE

 

*Brannon did not see any action this week. He is batting .264 with 6 home runs and 23 RBIs for two teams in the Boston Red Sox farm system.

 

RYAN WHITE UPDATE

 

*The former Randleman standout is 2-3 with a 3.64 earned run average and 31 strikeouts in a team-high 29 2/3 innings for the HiToms in the CPL.
