BOYS BASKETBALL

 

*Davonte Brooks scored 24 points in Eastern Randolph’s 65-56 win over Randleman. Nicah Taylor had 9 points while Connor Carter and Timothy Brewer each had 8.

 

Tyshaun Goldston led Randleman with 21 points. Christian Long scored 13 points and Greg Price had 9.

 

*Jerquarius Stanback scored 19 points as Asheboro beat Uwharrie Charter 60-53. Hakeeme Butler added 13 points and Tanner Marsh had 11 for the Blue Comets.

 

Ashton Troutman led UCA with 16 points. Walker Wilkins had 12 points.

 

*Sean Adkins scored 18 points as Southwestern Randolph held off Providence Grove 63-58. Thomas Leal had 15 points and Landon Williamson added 10.

 

*Dominic Payne produced yet another big effort with 32 points as Trinity overwhelmed rival Wheatmore 66-37. Grayson Earls and Brandon Campbell each had eight points.

 

Gavin Strickland led Wheatmore with 13 points while Cooper Black and Tristan Hammonds each had 8.

 

*D.J. Headen scored 20 points in Asheboro’s 66-54 win over Ledford. Marsh had 14 points and Butler 11.

 

*Jerquarius Stanback scored 22 points in first-place Asheboro’s 81-63 thrashing of Oak Grove in Mid-Piedmont Conference action. Headen had 14 points while Camden Walker contributed 13 and Tanner Marsh 10.

 

*Davonte Brooks scored 41 points and had 15 rebounds as Eastern Randolph won a 96-93 barnburner with Chatham Central. Timothy Brower had 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the Wildcats. Pierce Leonard scored 14 points and Nicah Taylor had 11.

 

*Brower scored 21 points to lead four players in double figures as Eastern Randolph raced past Wheatmore 97-52. Brooks had 16 points while Connor Carter added 14 and Taylor 10.

 

*Nathan Ellis scored 14 points as Southwestern Randolph continued to surge with a 63-54 win over Randleman. Kearns Trotter had 12 points for the Cougars while Marcus Robertson and Adkins had 11 each.

 

*Dylan Hodges scored 23 points as Trinity turned back Uwharrie Charter 64-55. Payne added 19 points and Campbell had 11.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

 

*Gracyn Hall scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Randleman used a balanced effort to beat Eastern Randolph 59-54. Audra Petty scored 14 points and Elizabeth York added 13.

 

Brecken Snotherly scored 38 points for Eastern Randolph.

 

*Allie Frazier’s steal and layup in the closing seconds lifted Providence Grove to a 41-39 upset win over Southwestern Randolph. Frazier finished with 18 points. Mailey Way had nine points.

 

*Autumn Gentry scored 26 points in Trinity’s 52-48 overtime win over Wheatmore. Kennedy Jackson had 19 points.

 

Bri Hill led Wheatmore with 18 points and Kynnedi Routh had 14.

 

*Sion Murrain scored 21 points in Asheboro’s 89-57 loss to Oak Grove. Salem Lee had 14 points and Kimry Comer added 10.

 

*Snotherly had yet another spectacular game with 43 points, 18 rebounds and 7 assists in Eastern Randolph’s 71-44 win over Wheatmore. Kenly Whitaker had 9 points while Logan had 8 points and 6 rebounds.

 

Routh led Wheatmore with 25 points.

 

*York led the way with 18 points as Randleman downed Southwestern Randolph 55-40. 

Hall contributed 16 points and Jordan Booker added 10.

 

Caressa King led Southwestern Randolph with 16 points and Maddie Small had 11.

 

BOYS WRESTLING

 

*Uwharrie Charter won twice in the 1-A dual team state playoffs. The top-ranked Eagles beat No. 16 Pender 66-18 and No. 8 North East Carolina Prep 49-28. UCA will face No. 4 Pamlico in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. If they win, the Eagles will face the Thomasville-Rosewood winner in the semifinals the same night.

 

Eastern Randolph beat North Moore 52-27 in the first round but fell 48-33 to Thomasville in the second round.

 

In 2-A, Trinity downed West Wilkes 43-30 in the first round and lost 43-32 to Lincolnton in the second round. Southwestern Randolph fell 46-20 to R-S Central in the first round.

 

In 3-A, Asheboro dropped a 36-30 decision to Ashe County in the first round.

 

GIRLS WRESTLING

 

*Trinity’s Bliss Joyce went 3-1 and finished second in the Midwest Regional.

 

GIRLS SWIMMING

 

*Asheboro’s Megan Becker won the 50 meter freestyle and 100 meter freestyle in a meet at the Asheboro/Randolph YMCA. She also anchored the Blue Comets’ 200 meter relay. Other relay team members were Fiona Wolfe-Roberts, Madison Burnette and Maci Columbia.

 

BOYS SWIMMING

 

*Tyler Smith, Gustavo Diaz, Seth Hydzik and Kevin Rodriguez won the 200 free relay at the Asheboro/Randolph YMCA.
