These two guys are about to be really tired. Nirey White (23) and his Asheboro team as well as John Kirkpatrick and his Randleman team are going to playing a whole bunch of games this week as the leagues try to make up for two weeks off.

LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP: Local athletes get ready for heavy week

Now that the weather has moderated, high school sports return with a vengeance this week after county schools missed two weeks of classes and sports matchups. Still, here are a few results from last weekend. The schedule is absolutely packed for this week and next (see the schedules in the print version of Randolph Hub, page 2B).

Boys Basketball 

■ Tyler Gee scored 35 points in Eastern Randolph’s 81-53 loss to Northwood. Gee leads the Wildcats with 20.4 points per game.

■  Asheboro fell 87-50 to TAAC 5-A/6-A Conference leader Northern Guilford.

Girls Basketball 

■  Asheboro lost a 69-25 decision to Northern Guilford. 

Girls Wrestling 

■  Nine county wrestlers qualified for the individual regionals, including six from Asheboro in 6-A.

Asheboro qualifiers were freshman Brianna Munoz (17-7) at 114, sophomore Ganelli Trejo (9-13) at 120, sophomore Andrea Thornton (18-2), freshman Briana Barrios (6-9) at 138, freshman Elena Alvarez (11-16) at 165 and Alaina Scherer (12-2) at 235.

Uwharrie Charter qualifiers were undefeated freshman Riley White (30-0) at 132 and freshman Avriana Whitfield (20-7) at 138.

Southwestern Randolph’s qualifier was freshman Mariah Amarucci (14-7) at 185.
