LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP: Good weather means lots and lots of outdoor events

Pretty weather means a lot of outdoor sports results to report. Here are some of the highlights from last week.

Baseball 

■ Chase Collins was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in Providence Grove’s 9-5 loss to Forbush. 

■ Cade McCallum and Maddox Dunn each had two hits and three RBIs as Eastern Randolph beat Southeast Guilford 9-4. Miles Cox had three hits, including two doubles. Chance Holdaway had a hit and three RBIs. Landon Albright pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts.

■ Lincoln Lawson had five hits, including two triples and a double, and six RBIs as Randleman swept a doubleheader from T.W. Andrews, 13-0 and 19-0. Ashton Poe and Kyle Dillow each had a three-run double in the opener while Ricky Romano pitched two scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Lawson pitched the third inning of the opener, striking out three.

Jake Riddle was 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs in the second game. John Kirkpatrick had a single, double and three RBIs. Titan Burgess had two hits and two RBIs. Poe struck out six in two innings while Collin Culler struck out three in one inning.

■ Elijah Sykes homered, singled and had two RBIs as Southwestern Randolph throttled Uwharrie Charter 12-3. Lane Poole had two hits and three RBIs. Carson Coltrane had a single, double and two RBIs. Grant Kirk had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Logan Weidman had two hits and an RBI while also pitching a complete game with 11 strikeouts. Brady Armfield had a two-run single.

Brody Engle had two hits, including a double, for Uwharrie Charter. Grat Dalton had an RBI single.

■ Bryson Marley pitched a three-hitter with four strikeouts in Eastern Randolph’s 1-0 loss to Northwood. Avery Wright had two hits for the Wildcats.

■ Colin Duvall had two hits and pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the win as Providence Grove rallied for a 4-3 win over Surry Central. Caden Waugh also had two hits. Bishop Moore had an RBI double and Andrew Thomas pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn a save.

The rout by Asheboro against Eastern Guilford was so complete  and the score was so high after one (12-0) that the scoreboard couldn't display it properly

■ Shane Immel and Justin Guerrero belted back-to-back inside-the-park home runs to highlight a 12-run first inning as Asheboro routed Eastern Guilford 15-0 in run-ruled three inning game. Price Kidd pitched two innings with four strikeouts and Sam Gore pitched one inning with two strikeouts.

■ Daniel Jaimes, Gavin Allen and Gore combined on a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts as Asheboro beat Wheatmore 6-0. Jaimes worked four of the innings. Gore had a two-run double and Immel singled in a run.

Lukas Usterbowski had two hits for Wheatmore.

■ Brody Little, Nick Soles and Peyton Williams all had two hits in Trinity’s 4-3 win over Western Alamance. Lincoln Coble pitched a seven-hitter over 6 2/3 innings, striking out seven. Grayson Fauber got the final out for the save.

■ Carlos Cordero had a two-run double as Eastern Randolph rallied for a 10-6 win over Northwood. Maddox Dunn got the win with 3 2/3 innings of relief, allowing four hits and two runs with four strikeouts.

■ Jake Hunter pitched a six-hitter with no earned runs allowed and seven strikeouts in Uwharrie Charter’s 4-3 win over Southwestern Randolph. Wilson Boswell’s double drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning. Hunter added an RBI single.

Grant Kirk had two hits and an RBI for SWR. Sykes pitched a five-hitter with one earned run and 10 strike-outs.

■ Riddle pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts as Randleman beat Southeast Guilford 2-0. Kyle Dillow provided the offense with a two-run single in the top of the fifth inning.

■ Indiana Hill and Cohen Wolfe both had two-run singles in Trinity’s 7-3 win over Forbush. Grayson Fauber was 3-for-3 with an RBI and pitched the seventh inning with two strikeouts. Walker Parrish had two hits and an RBI. Peyton Williams allowed four hits and two unearned runs with 10 strikeouts in six innings.

Softball 

■ Lylah Gower’s two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Wheatmore to a 7-6 win over Eastern Randolph. Adalyn Boles also had an RBI double in the seventh. Makenna Lawrence had two triples and two RBIs. Boles was the winning pitcher, striking out 12.

London Hardin led Eastern Randolph with three hits. Vivian Underwood had two hits, including a triple. Shelby Williams and Amanda Crabtree both had a pair of singles. Addie Faucette had a two-run single.

■ Cailyn York was 4-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs as Providence Grove drubbed Chatham Charter 12-2 in five innings. Baylee Cain had two hits and two RBIs. Callie Lambert had a single, double and RBI. Ruby Caudle and Adi Johnson both had two hits. Carly Lambert had a hit and three RBIs.

■ Madison Hicks had two hits and two RBIs as Asheboro outscored Dudley 22-7. Claire Younts had a hit and two RBIs. Kyndall Snipes had a hit and RBI.

■ Addyson Dees had a single, triple and two RBIs in Randleman’s 15-0 rout of Northern Guilford. Kadie Green had two hits and two RBIs. Kinzie Ivey and Lilah Covington each had a two-run triple while Ella Rogers had a two-run double. Ivey pitched a five-inning four-hitter with six strikeouts.

■ Adalyn Boles struck out nine and allowed three earned runs in Wheatmore’s 6-1 loss to Southern Alamance.

■ Emory Johnson had a single, double and two RBIs as Uwharrie Charter rallied for a 7-6 win over Southwestern Randolph. Tori Dixon had an RBI triple and Payton Coburn singled in a run. Paityn Williams hurled four scoreless innings in relief for the win.

Parrish had two hits and two RBIs for the Cougars.

■ Ella Rogers went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs while pitching a three-inning no-hitter with eight strikeouts as Randleman overwhelmed Lexington 15-0. Lyric Chriscoe had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Alyanna Hunt had two triples and four RBIs. 

■ London Hardin had the lone hit in Eastern Randolph’s 11-0 loss to Northwood.

■ Campbell Ziemba hurled a five-inning perfect game with 12 strikeouts as Providence Grove dominated Southeast Guilford 14-0. Callie Lambert had two hits, including a single, and drove in four runs. Liz Shoe had two hits and three RBIs. Ruby Caudle had two hits and two RBIs. Lara Wiseman had two hits and an RBI.

■ Alyssa Harris threw a no-hitter in SW Randolph’s 3-0 win over Uwharrie Charter. Jada Freedland was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Kami Dunn had a two-run double. Nauttica Parrish had two hits.

■ Adie Beck had a run-scoring triple in Eastern Randolph’s 6-1 loss to Northwood. 

■ Rogers tossed a three-inning perfect game with eight strikeouts as Randleman beat T.W. Andrews 15-0 in the first game of a doubleheader. Chriscoe had a home run, single and four RBIs. Ayla Jordan had two triples and two RBIs. Haylee Farrar had a two-run triple and Rogers had two hits. Hunt pitched a three-inning perfect game with eight strikeouts in the nightcap as Randleman rolled 16-0. Sophie Sawyer belted a solo home run and Makayla Striblin had three RBIs. Farrar had two hits and an RBI.

Boys Tennis 

■ Sam Peters, Caleb Ward and Kelton Shoptaw won in singles as Providence Grove edged West Davidson 5-4. The doubles teams of Jackson Lawver/Carson Jones and Micah Oates/Shoptaw won their matches.

Girls Soccer 

■ Emmie Messner scored the goal and Kinsley Davis had 16 saves in Wheatmore’s 4-1 loss to North Davidson.

■ Rylee Stover scored three goals and Hayley Banks had two as Providence Grove raced past Southwestern Randolph 9-0. Sarah Hendricks, Arlet Puente-Garza, Natalie Hernadez and Anna Winstead scored goals for the Patriots. Hernandez had two assists while Ariyana Loveday had one. Alyssa Mesmer made one save.

■ Stover scored five more goals in Providence Grove’s 9-0 win over Eastern Randolph. Hernandez tallied a pair of goals while Hayley Banks and Mesmer each got one. Stover and Mesmer had assists. Mesmer made one save.

■ Kimrey Watts and Jaira Arellano each scored two goals as Asheboro blanked Richmond County 5-0. Gigi Flores scored once. Penny Smith had two assists while Alexis Bautista, Arellano and Flores each had one. Crystal Castaneda made five saves.

■ Watts scored both goals in Asheboro’s 2-2 tie with Ledford. Flores had an assist; Castaneda had seven saves.

Boys Golf

■ Randleman’s Kaden Beasley and Landon Cook shot 44 as the Tigers finished second in a Piedmont Athletic Conference match at Lexington Golf Club.

■ Asheboro beat Eastern Randolph 176-179 in a match at Siler City Country Club. Brayden Davis and Charlie Knott both shot 43 to lead the Blue Comets.

Eastern Randolph had the two lowest scores with medalist Tyler Gee shooting 38 and Emmitt Frye carding a 40.

■ Evan Morin and Rowley Crowder both shot 41 to tie for second in the individual standings while leading Uwharrie Charter to victory in a Four Rivers Conference match at Siler City Country Club.

Eastern Randolph’s Frye and UCA’s Gabe Alley shot 42. UCA’s Brandon Stover shot 43.

■ Asheboro was second in a four-team non-conference match won by Oak Grove at Lexington Golf Club. Davis led Asheboro with a 42 while William Tucker shot 43 and Knott 44.

■ Caleb Abernethy took medalist honors with a 42 and led Southwestern Randolph to victory over Providence Grove and Chatham Charter at Holly Ridge Golf Links. Tyler Brown shot 44 for Providence Grove.

■ Davis was fourth with a 38 in Asheboro’s 145-167 loss to Page at Bryan Park Golf Club. Lee Hooker shot 41 and Knott had a 43.

Boys Track & Field

■ Asheboro (263.5) won a three-way meet with Randleman (185) and Providence Grove (134.5).

Winning for Asheboro were the 4x800 relay (Connor Rauch, Ellis Leroy, Xavier Roman, Bristoe Brown), Michael Mark (110-meter hurdles), Luke Brumley (100-meter dash), the 4x100 relay (Willie Sherrod, Brumley, Connor Brinton, Mark), Brinton (200 meters), the 4x400 relay (Elijah Ingram, Sherrod, Jaydon Spruill, Tasha Timmons), Aaron Tyson (high jump, pole vault), Boone Hinesley (shot put) and Juan Pablo Munoz (discus).

Winning for Providence Grove were the 4x200 relay (Malachi Combo, Landon Fox, Conner Tozier, Nick Straughn), Combo (300-meter hurdles) and Straughn (triple jump).

Winning for Randleman were Jedidiah Dake (1600 meters), Bryson Nall (400 meters, 800 meters), Jack Gilmartin (3200 meters) and Jazai Cassady (long jump).

Girls Track & Field 

■ Asheboro (297) won a three-way meet with Providence Grove (181) and Randleman (44).

Winning for Asheboro were Nyla Price (100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, triple jump), Jalaya Showers (100-meter dash, 200 meters, long jump), the 4x100 relay (Cadence Bowers, Sayre Smith, Anis Goldston, Abigail Dillard), the 4x400 relay (Jane Albright, Goldston, Price, Cadence Waters), Jamaria Fonville (high jump), Sarah Reeder (pole vault) and Trynitee Brady (shot put, discus).

Winning for Providence Grove were the 4x800 relay (Laure Bernhardt, Aaliya Burpee, Abigail Lewis, Lynda Browder), the 4x200 relay (Anist Johnson, Jayla Edwards, Heaven Demastus, Kolbi Lineberry), Bernhardt (1600 meters, 800 meters) and Abigail Lewis (400 meters).

Winning for Randleman was Reagan Henley (3200 meters).
