Wrestling, swimming and indoor track have wrapped, and the spring sports seasons began this week, but for now the focus remains on prep basketball. Here’s a look at some highlights from last week.
Boys Basketball
■ Carter Edmonds scored 24 points as SW Randolph beat Eastern Randolph 77-67. Levi Dalke contributed 17 points while Colton McKee had 15 and Kenan Sugg 10.
Tyler Gee led Eastern Randolph with 25 points and Emmitt Frye had 22.
■ Darrion Johnson scored 20 points in No. 3 Asheboro’s 76-57 win over Eastern Guilford in the first round of the TAAC tournament. Nirey White scored 16 points, Jeremiah Stanback had 10 and Garrison Cheek 9.
■ Will Dabbs scored 22 points and Andrew Thomas had 21 in Providence Grove’s 69-36 romp over Trinity. Dabbs also had 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. Gabe McKoy had 9 points.
■ Dabbs scored 15 points and Thomas had 14 in Providence Grove’s 69-51 win over East Davidson.
■ Avery Ivey led the way with 25 points as Wheatmore beat East Davidson 74-56. Jordan Starkey and Collin Dodd each had 14 points. Karson Edwards had 11 points.
■ Johnson scored 25 points and White had 10 in Asheboro’s 59-44 win over Eastern Guilford.
■ Justyce Lawson scored 19 points in Uwharrie Charter’s 57-39 win over Southwestern Randolph. Jaxon Mabe had 10 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals.
Edmonds led SWR with 11 points while Sugg had 9 and Dalke 8.
■ Lawson and Mabe both scored 25 points as Uwharrie Charter overwhelmed North Moore 87-28. Mabe also had 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Kareem Helms had 17 points and 10 rebounds.
■ Connor Cassidy led four players in double figures with 14 points as Randleman thumped Montgomery Central 74-39. Damari Garner scored 12 points while Trey Burnett and Pacey Wagner had 11 each.
■ Mabe poured in 29 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and got 6 steals as Uwharrie Charter drubbed Eastern Randolph 74-44. Helms contributed a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds. Kam Harvey had 9 points.
Gee led Eastern Randolph with 18 points. Isaiah Batchelor had 13 points.
■ Collin Dodd scored 13 points in Wheatmore’s 50-37 loss to Thomasville in the semifinals of the CCC tournament.
■ Dabbs scored 17 points in Providence Grove’s 56-38 win over West Davidson in the semifinals of the CCC tournament. Thomas had 11 points, 6 assists and 3 steals. Cam Jones also scored 11 points. McKoy had 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
■ Lawson scored 17 points and Mabe had 15 in Uwharrie Charter’s 78-60 loss to Northwood in the Four Rivers Conference tournament championship game. Harvey added 9 points.
■ Connor Cassidy scored 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds as Randleman toppled High Point Central 60-49. Trey Burnett and Pacey Wagner each had 11 points.
■ Cassidy scored 17 points in Randleman’s 64-43 win over Central Davidson. Damari Garner had 16 points, 9 rebounds.
Girls Basketball
■ Nauttica Parrish scored 27 points in Southwestern Randolph’s 69-42 win over Eastern Randolph. Jordin George added 22 points and Maddie Strider had 16.
Callie Craven led ER with 20 points.
■ Erika Ledbetter scored 11 points and Terri Dixon had 9 as Uwharrie Charter downed North Moore 65-31. Teely Harris and Navaeh Staples both scored 8 points.
■ Adalynn Scherer scored 14 points as No. 4 Asheboro whipped No. 5 Northeast Guilford 39-16 in the first round of the TAAC tournament.
■ Laurel Bernhardt scored 17 points in PG’s 58-37 win over Trinity. Bailee Mitchell and Adi Johnson both had 11 points.
Madison Hill led Trinity with a game-high 20 points.
■ Johnson scored 13 points and Bernhardt had 10 as Providence Grove squeaked by East Davidson 36-32.
■ Staples scored 13 and Uwharrie Charter edged Southwestern Randolph 44-42 on Namah Al-Arif’s game winner. Kayla Brown and Al-Arif both had 10 points.
George led the Cougars with 17 points and Parrish had 13.
■ Staples scored 12 points as Uwharrie Charter beat Eastern Randolph 63-40. Lainey Thomas had 10 points and Emory Johnson added 9.
Craven led Eastern Randolph with 12 points and Raegan Beaver added 11.
■ Scherer scored 24 points in Asheboro’s 50-39 loss to top-seeded Northern Guilford in the semifinals of the TAAC tournament.
■ Kaelyn Whiteheart scored 17 points and Kinsley Davis added 11 as Wheatmore beat East Davidson 46-31 in the semifinals of the CCC tournament.
■ Johnson had a spectacular game with 31 points as Providence Grove downed West Davidson 55-38 in the semifinals of the CCC tournament. Bernhardt had 10 points.
■ Brown scored 11 points in Uwharrie Charter’s 51-37 loss to Northwood in the Four Rivers Conference title game.
