Blue Comets avenge loss to Randleman

After losing to Randleman by 14 points a week earli-er, Asheboro turned the tables last week with a 22-point win in a rematch at AHS.

 

Here’s a look at those and other local sports highlights from last week.

 

BOYS BASKETBALL

*Parker Kines scored 22 points in Wheatmore’s 53-50 loss to Ledford. Gavin Strickland added 14 points for the Warriors.

*James Ellis and Will Dabbs each scored 11 points in Providence Grove’s 73-50 loss to Southern Guilford. Andrew Thomas added 9 points and Gabe McKoy had 8.

*Jerquarius Stanback scored 18 points as Asheboro throttled Randleman 58-36. Amare Godwin had 12 points and Elijah Woodle contributed 11. David Rodriguez had nine points.

Tyshaun Goldston led Randleman with 13 points and Greg Price had 10.

*Dominic Payne scored 32 points in Trinity’s 73-56 win over East Davidson. Jacob Hodges had 17 points for the Bulldogs while Grayson Earls had 10 and Evan Hodges 9.

*Marcus Robertson scored 24 points in Southwestern Randolph’s 42-40 loss to South Davidson.

*Robertson had 19 points in Southwestern Randolph’s 55-52 loss to East Davidson. Nathan Ellis added 13 points.

*Stanback scored 18 points as Asheboro ran away with a 70-33 win over Uwharrie Charter. Camden Walker had 16 points while David Rodriguez and Woodle each contributed 10.

*Kines scored 13 points in Wheatmore’s 58-37 loss to North Davidson. Strickland had 9 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.

*Chase Farlow scored 16 points as Randleman trimmed Northwest Guilford 64-60. Jireh Price and Price each had 14 points.

*Payne had another big night with 34 points in Trinity’s 76-67 win over Oak Grove. Jacob Hodges and Brandon Campbell each scored 13 points.

*Jackson Rhyne had 10 points, 11 rebounds and a pair of blocks in Providence Grove’s 57-46 loss to Western Alamance.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

*Brianna Hill and Madeline Mullinnix each scored 10 points to lead a balanced scoring effort as Wheatmore beat Ledford 42-29. Maggie Messner had 9 points and Kynnedi Routh had 8.

*Audra Petty scored 24 points as Randleman held off Asheboro 52-45. Chenleigh Robinson added 13 points.

*Kenly Whitaker scored 15 points to go along with 11 rebounds and 5 assists in Eastern Randolph’s 55-41 loss to Williams. Ziera Watson had 12 points and 4 steals while Miriana Corea grabbed 12 rebounds.

*Asia Steverson scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in Providence Grove’s 43-30 victory over Southern Guilford. Brooke Ingram had 12 points for the Patriots and Jada Nixon added 10.

*Caressa King scored 16 points in Southwestern Randolph’s 61-32 win over South Davidson. Jordin George and Mollie Strider each had 10 points.

*King scored 21 points and George had 10 in Southwestern Randolph’s 64-30 rout of East Davidson.

*Whitaker scored 18 points and Watson contributed 14 in Eastern Randolph’s 48-35 win over Southern Lee.

*Whitaker tallied 24 points and Watson had 11 in Eastern Randolph’s 49-41 loss to Chatham Charter. Corea grabbed 11 rebounds.

*Sammy Chriscoe scored 16 points in Uwharrie Charter’s 59-39 victory over Asheboro. Nevaeh Staples added 13 points and Kayla Brown had 10.

Ellen Long led Asheboro with 14 points.

*Petty scored 16 points in Randleman’s 41-35 loss to Northwest Guilford. Bella Byman had nine points.

 

WRESTLING

*Asheboro was second in the “C” pool and fourth overall in the Carrboro Rumble. Going 4-0 for the Blue Comets were Sammy Salinas and Guillermo Santos. Kaydence Lennon was 2-0. Adam Curry, Oscar Zelaya, Alex Patino, Nico Otero and Andy Canas were 3-1. Nick DesRoches was 2-1.

*Wheatmore’s Trey Swaney (138) and Dominic Hittepole (175) had second place finishes in the Green Hope Grapple.

*Providence Grove’s Aiden Poplin (3rd, 113) and Logan Armfield (4th, 132) placed in the Bobby Lloyd Invitational. 

*Southwestern Randolph’s Jose Flores (285) was fourth in the Mount Pleasant Invitational.

*Randleman swept to victory in the Mount Tabor Kota Super Duals, winning all five matches. Jesus Gordillo-Robinson, Kolby Garner, Jesus Garcia, Braxton Walker and Alex Raymundo were all 5-0. Christian McLeod and Jaxton Strickland were both 4-1.

*DesRoaches, Salinas, Zelaya, Patino, Otero and Santos won their weight classes in Asheboro’s 48-30 loss to Oak Grove.

*Joshua Watson, Lucas Kennedy, Trevor Crabtree, David Lambright, Hayden Payne, Zuri Francis and Maddox Carson won as Eastern Randolph held off Wheatmore 42-36.

Wheatmore’s winners were Nolan Hammonds, Hayden Johnson, Swaney, Spencer Moore, Zack Starkweather, Hittepole and Renato Barron.

*Kobe Kinley, Walker, Raymundo, Garrett Dycus, Garner, Harry Robinson and Garcia won as Randleman edged Southwestern Randolph 39-33.

Winning for Southwestern Randolph were Erick Lopez Rabadan, Ismael Tejada Fuentes, Flores, Reece Poe, Janaskel Perez Mortera, Nabor Hernandez Perez and Michael Jaimes.

INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD

 

*Asheboro sophomore Jalaya Showers won the girls 55-meter dash in the Eastern Alamance Polar Bear No. 1 meet. Trinity’s Kensley Fox won the girls shot put.

The Blue Comets’ Lance Everhart was a double winner, taking the boys high jump and pole vault. Asheboro’s Valentino Mark won the triple jump.
