Audra Petty scores 26 for Randleman

Jerquarius Stanback led Asheboro’s boys basketball team to another victory and Dominic Payne opened some more eyes in a victory at SW Randolph. 

 

Here’s a look at those and other local sports highlights from last week.

 

BOYS BASKETBALL

*Marcus Robertson scored 20 points and Brayden Chapman added 13 in Southwestern Randolph’s 60-45 win over Providence Grove. Nathan Ellis and Julian Mosley each had eight points.

Gabe McCoy led Providence Grove with 15 points and Will Dabbs had 11.

*Dominic Payne scored 27 points as Trinity raced past Wheatmore 71-38. Brandon Campbell had 15 points while Jacob Hodges and Evan Stepp both contributed 11.

*Jerquarius Stanback scored 23 points as Asheboro ran past Uwharrie Charter 81-62. Camden Walker had 16 points and Elijah Woodle added 15.

Braeden Lamb led Uwharrie Charter with 22 points and Aaron Smith had 17.

*Tyshaun Goldston scored 18 points while Greg Price had 15 and Connor Cassidy 14 as Randleman beat Eastern Randolph 71-52.

Timothy Brower led ER with 24 points and Rayden West had 10.

*Payne scored 19 points in Trinity’s 68-43 loss to Central Davidson. Campbell added 14 points for the Bulldogs.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

*Mailey Way scored 14 points in Providence Grove’s 58-37 win over East Davidson. Kenzi Mundy and Laurel Bernhardt each had nine points for the Patriots.

*Bella Byman scored 12 points in Randleman’s 42-37 loss to Ledford. Kadie Green added 10 points for the Tigers.

*Nevaeh Staples scored 19 points as Uwharrie Charter held off Asheboro 54-51. Chloe Painter and Kayla Brown each had eight points.

*Caressa King led four players in double figures with 14 points as Southwestern Randolph beat Providence Grove 63-53. Jordin George and Kenzie Martin each scored 12 points and Macy Allred had 10.

Brooke Ingram led Providence Grove with 15 points and Jada Nixon had 12.

*Audra Petty scored 26 points as Randleman pulled away for a 55-31 win over Eastern Randolph. Chenleigh Robinson had 12 points and Byman added 8.

Ziera Watson led ER with 14 points.

 

WRESTLING

*Trinity took part in the Statesville Greyhound Invitational. Winning for the Bulldogs were Edgar Vasquez (113), Spencer May (120), and Charles Schaefer (144). Also placing were Aiden Burkholder (2nd, 106), Brayden Hall (2nd, 126), Levi Dennis (2nd, 132), Jaden Allred (3rd, 138), Lawson Coltrane (3rd, 165), Xavier Horton (4th, 190) and Joseph Trahan (3rd, 285).

*Uwharrie Charter was second in the Smoky Mountain Grapple at Avery County. Winning for the Eagles were Ethan Hines (106) and Lorenzo Alston (150). Also placing were Jack McArthur (4th, 138), Carson Robinson (4th, 157), Alek Millikan (3rd, 165), Caden Bond (5th, 190) and Jadon Maness (3rd, 215).

*Trinity won the Elizabeth Barry Memorial Tournament at Mallard Creek. Taking first place in their weight classes for the Bulldogs were Dennis (132) and Schaefer (144). Also placing were Burkholder (3rd, 106), Vasquez (3rd, 113), May (2nd, 120), Hall (4th, 126), Allred (2nd, 138), Coltrane (5th, 157), Horton (4th, 190) and Trahan (4th, 285).

*Wheatmore’s Trey Swaney (2nd, 132) and Dominic Hittepole (4th, 175) placed in the Tiger Classic at Chapel Hill.
