Nadine Lane Johnson

STALEY — Nadine Lane Johnson, 88, of Staley, finished her earthly race, with family by her side, on March 21, 2023, at Chatham Hospital UNC Health in Siler City.

Funeral Services will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, at Shady Grove Baptist Church, Staley, with Rev. John Fields and Rev. Jeff Garner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Nadine was a native of Randolph County, retired after 30 years from Ramseur Interlock and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cicero Thomas and Ruby Violet Hinson Lane; brother, Fred Lane; and husband, James William Johnson.

Nadine, better known as MawMaw Dean to many, had three very special loves — Jesus, family and the Carolina Tar Heels.

She spent many Sunday mornings teaching Sunday School at Shady Grove and could always be found in charge of the arts and crafts at Vacation Bible School.

Nadine loved her family big. She spent many years working third shift so as to be there for her children during the day, and looking back now, nobody knows exactly when she found time to sleep. Nadine’s love for her children was only matched by her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

And then there were her Tar Heels. Nadine was such a devoted Carolina fan, she showed it every day with her signature Carolina blue eyeshadow.

Nadine also loved baking, growing her roses and making her famous sweet tea.

MawMaw Dean leaves a lifetime of fond memories for her family and friends to cherish and to bring a smile.

Survivors include daughter, Faye Johnson of Staley; sons, William Ray Johnson, and James Rex Johnson and wife Anita, both of Staley; grandchildren, James Rex Johnson, Jr., Kristy Leanne Coble Kimrey, Kara Leigh Coble Chriscoe, Robert Johnson; great-grandchildren, Hunter Scott Kimrey, Ansleigh Kate Chriscoe, Paisley Klaire Chriscoe; special cousin, Penny Kirkman.

The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the home of Faye Johnson.
