TYRONE, GA — Gary Wayne Walker, age 76, of Tyrone,, passed away on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023.

 

He was a devoted husband to his late wife and a supportive father to his children. He deeply loved his family and always provided and cared for them. He was born on June 25, 1947, to the late Claude and Lorene Walker of Asheboro.

 

He graduated from Asheboro High School in 1965 and NC State University in 1969 with a degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation, he began working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and eventually married his beloved Sharon Blake of Wilmington in April 1973.

 

He continued to work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until 1976 when he and Sharon relocated to Birmingham, AL. There they raised their three children and attended Huffman United Methodist Church. 

 

Gary began working at SBCCI in Birmingham until 1984 when he launched his own company, Walker Engineering. He successfully owned and managed Walker Engineering until his retirement in recent years. He and Sharon moved to Tyrone, GA, in 2012 and he began attending Calvary Chapel of Newnan in 2019.

 

Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Blake Walker, and great-granddaughter, Ellie Grace Allard. 

 

He is survived by his children, Blake Walker and his wife Pam of Carrollton, GA, Kimberly Dover and her husband Joel of Newnan, GA, Jason Walker of Buckingham, VA; brothers, Dickie Walker and his wife Gail of Asheboro, Mike Walker and his wife Beth of Asheboro, Pat Walker and his wife Lynn of Cary; grandchildren, Nicole Hays and her husband Justin, Jessica Allard and her husband William, Patrick Walker, Megan Dover, Jake Dover and Allison Dover; great-grandchildren, Micah Hancock, Haiden Hays, Blakely Allard, Wyatt Allard; numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service to celebrate Gary's life was held on Nov. 17 at McKoon Funeral Home, with Dr. Joel Dover officiating. Interment followed at Westminster Memorial Gardens.
