Welcome!

Ann Walker Roberts

On Nov. 25, 2022, The Lord mercifully and sovereignly relieved Ann Walker Roberts, 77, from her battle with cancer surrounded by loved ones with very little pain or discomfort throughout this season of her life.

Ann was born on Aug. 19, 1945, to Colon and Helen Roberts of Elon where she was raised with her two brothers Colon B. and David C. Roberts.

After graduating from Western High School and Radford College, Ann lived most of her life in Martinsville, VA. She had a 30-year career with Virginia Cooperative Extension working with youth and families in Henry County, VA.

During the last years of her mother’s life, Ann moved back to Elon to be the primary caregiver for her mother, only to need that same care herself after her diagnosis in March of 2022. After her diagnosis, Ann continued to be a blessing from The Lord to a vast number of friends and family by her love and joy during the remaining 9 months of her life in Asheboro, NC, with her brother, David, and family.

Ann became a member of the Danville Master Gardener Association in 2002. She was a lifetime member and was awarded Master Gardener Emeritus in July 2022 and served as Chair of The Travel and Garden Tours Project. The educational tours she planned were always successful due to her meticulous attention to details. She always had an eye for the smallest of details along with an extreme persistence and diligence to ensure the details were exactly as they should be. The last 8 years she volunteered to educate children in horticulture at Gibson Elementary School Greenhouse. She always went out of her way to make it special for the students.

Her sense of humor was the best. She loved to laugh and shared the best stories, always displaying a beautiful smile. Ann’s horticulture specialties were various types of ferns, which was evident in her care for them. In the summer when there was little activity in the Greenhouse, she would bring ferns home to nurture. Her hidden talents were embroidery, and she was a beautiful seamstress. Ann loved to bake, always testing new recipes to share with others. Ann was thoughtful, kind and always thinking of others instead of herself. These attributes of Ann along with her love, joy and compassion were on full display throughout her life and touched the lives of all those she was around.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents Colon and Helen Roberts. She is survived by her brothers, Colon B. Roberts Jr. (Barbara) of Wilmington, David C. Roberts (Linda) of Asheboro; nephews, James Travis Roberts (Sarah) of Kenosha, WI, and Nathan Walker Roberts of Asheboro; a grandniece, Mary Katherine Roberts of Thomasville; grandnephew, Sawyer James Roberts of Kenosha, WI; as well as a host of cousins and special friends.

The family of Ann Roberts would like to extend our most heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for all the prayers, support and love expressed in a multitude of different ways from our friends and caregivers during this season of our lives.

Ann continues to be a blessing from the Lord through her memory and influence, which will continue to be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, at Pugh Funeral Home of Asheboro.

Friends and family plan to gather to glorify God in Jesus Christ for the continued memory, impact and influence of Ann’s life during a visitation at 12:15 p.m. with a memorial service immediately following at 1 p.m. Internment will follow at a later date at the seashore.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ann can be sent to: Danville Master Gardeners Association for the Gibson School Fund c/o Billy Holley, 1155 Jameson Road North, Danville, VA 24540.
