RCC hosts NCWorks events for former Klaussner Employees

ASHEBORO — Randolph Community College hosted the first of three NCWorks Career and Resource Fairs on Aug. 15, in the Continuing Education and Industrial Center (CEIC) on the Asheboro Campus.

The fairs are in response to the recent closing of Klaussner Furniture, which left more than 800 people without employment. More than 400 people received help at Tuesday’s fair.

There are two more fairs planned — Tuesday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at RCC’s Archdale Center and Tuesday, Aug. 29, at the CEIC from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

“By offering free classes, resumé writing assistance, and hosting job fairs, the College is demonstrating our commitment to the well-being and professional development of these individuals during a challenging time,” RCC President Dr. Shah Ardalan said. “We are hoping to not only equip these individuals with valuable skills, but also empower them to navigate the job market with confidence. These initiatives highlight the RCC’s dedication to the local community, and our determination to make a positive impact in the lives of those facing unexpected career transitions.”

Starting Aug. 14, RCC has a resource room available in the CEIC offering support services for former Klaussner employees from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Services include walk-in resumé building, mock interviewing, and job connection. RCC staff also have reached out to former employees who indicated a need for career assessment or emotional consultation online

The College has several short-term courses that, when completed, a student can earn a state-certified credential. Those include auto body repair, welding, electrocardiography, health and wellness coaching, medical coding, nursing assistant, paramedic, pharmacy technician, phlebotomy, plumbing, small engine repair, therapeutic massage, and veterinary assisting. RCC’s College and Career Readiness program also has opportunities for former Klaussner employees to earn their high school diploma and/or learn English.

The CEIC is located at 413 Industrial Park Avenue in Asheboro, and the Archdale Center’s address is 110 Park Drive in Archdale.
