Man arrested after shooting wounds two at Caraway Speedway

ASHEBORO — A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with two counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, following a shooting incident at Caraway Speedway Saturday night, Sept. 26.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:07 p.m. Randolph County 911 received radio communications regarding two individuals who suffered gunshot wounds at Caraway Speedway. The incident occurred in the infield area of the speedway.

Deputies on scene identified the two victims who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Both subjects were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

On Sunday, Sept. 27, Derek Luther Marshall was taken into custody. Marshall was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate issued no bond. A court date was scheduled for Sept. 28, 2026. 

The investigation remains ongoing. All persons are presumed innocent unless found guilty in a court of law.
