Liberty Shooting Suspect Arrested Six Weeks After Incident; Faces Multiple Felony Charges

LIBERTY — A man wanted in connection with a February shooting in Liberty that left two people hospitalized has been arrested in Guilford County, according to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office.

Treven Terrill Benton, 27, was taken into custody on March 18 in Guilford County — more than six weeks after the incident that prompted the investigation — and transported to the Guilford County Detention Center.

The arrest stems from a Feb 3 incident on Hollow Tree Drive in Liberty, where Randolph County deputies responded to what was initially reported as a breaking and entering in progress. The call was updated to a gunshot and assault while units were en route. Upon arrival, deputies found two individuals inside the residence with gunshot wounds and administered aid until EMS arrived to transport the victims to area hospitals.

Following an investigation by the Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division, warrants were sought and a magistrate found probable cause to charge Benton with an extensive list of felonies, including:

- Felony breaking and/or entering
- Four counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
- Felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injuries
- Felony attempted first-degree murder
- Felony possession of a stolen firearm
- Felony possession of a firearm by a felon

Benton made his first appearance on March 23 in Randolph County District Court. He is currently being held on no bond.
