Welcome!

Trade Street, which runs narrowly through what amounts to an alleyway of the backs of many downtown businesses, will be reimagined in a project that will begin to transform the area in 2027.

City gets $250,000 grant for Trade / North Street project

ASHEBORO — Take a good last look. In 2027, the long talked about construction renovations in Downtown Asheboro will begin.

The City of Asheboro has been awarded a $225,000 Rural Downtown Economic Development Grant from the NC Dept. of Commerce to support streetscape improvements along North Street and Trade Street as part of the ongoing Trade/North Street Infrastructure Project.

This multifaceted project includes:

■ Burying all overhead utility lines.

■ Replacing all antiquated underground water, sewer and gas mains.

■ Enhancing street and sidewalk functionality.

The project was conceived in 2021 and has advanced from the conceptual stage through complete design development plans. City officials have been actively working for more than two years to secure funding for this transformative project while also coordinating with property and business owners. Through support from the Randolph County legislative delegation, the bulk of the project will be paid for by state infrastructure-related grant dollars.
