Zoo City StrEAT Fest helps NC Zoo celebrate 50th

ASHEBORO — To celebrate the North Carolina Zoo’s 50th anniversary this year, Downtown Asheboro Inc. (DAI) is hosting a new event called Zoo City StrEAT Fest on Saturday, April 20, from 5-8 p.m. in downtown Asheboro.

The event will bring all the things to love about downtown outdoors in honor of Earth Day, and the North Carolina Zoo will be bringing educational and interactive activities to highlight all the great work they do for conservation and wildlife.

In a setting similar to Christmas Downtown held annually in Asheboro, this event will include outdoor dining, live music and a pop-up farmers market. Families are also encouraged to bring their kids along as the festival will offer many different free activities for kids, including face painting, sidewalk chalk art, a seed germination station, an interactive soil and water mobile classroom, and more.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the North Carolina Zoo for this inaugural event,” said Addie Corder, Executive Director of DAI. “This event will be similar to Christmas Downtown, with the addition of outdoor dining both on the street and on outdoor patios across downtown restaurants.”

During the event, Sunset Avenue will be closed from Fayetteville Street to Church Street. A portion of North Street will also be closed.

Parking will be available downtown, including in Bicentennial Park, the city hall municipal lot, the Farmers Market Lot, the Chamber of Commerce Parking Lot and various other side street parking.
