MFC Week 5: Deep River Greenway in Randleman, Caraway Conference Center

Register for the Mayor’s Fitness Challenge at www.healthycommunitiesA3.com. There is no cost to participate, no age limits and all are welcome. Participate as part of a team or as an individual. During this challenge, Special Community Events are planned each week. This is an all-activity challenge. 

Convert your activities to steps and log your steps on the Healthy Communities website www.healthycommunitiesA3. com starting September 27. Everyone who participates is a winner from increased physical activity and visiting wonderful natural places around our County to walk and hike with your family and friends.

Saturday

Mayor’s Walk: Randleman at Deep River Greenway

Date: Saturday, Nov. 1

Where: Meet at the Trailhead parking lot of the Randleman Greenway, part of the Deep River State Trail at 117 Presnell St., just off Main St. in downtown Randleman.

Time: 9 a.m.

Walk Length: Approximately 3 miles along the scenic Deep River.

Dogs: Welcome but must remain on a leash at all times.

Mayor Gary Betts of the City of Randleman will lead the walk. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for a fall weather walk. In case of bad weather, the walk will be canceled. There is no cost to participate, and no pre-registration is needed. This event is open to all who can walk this distance unaided.

Sunday

Caraway Mountain Conference Center

Date: Sunday, Nov. 2

Where: Caraway Mountain Conference Center located west of Asheboro at 4756 Caraway Mountain Road. 

Time: Meet at 1:30 p.m. at the Farmer’s Market in Downtown Asheboro, 134 S. Church Street, to car caravan to the site of the hike or 2 p.m. at Caraway Mountain.

Hike Length: About 3 miles on the Long Arm Ridge Trail with great views of the Uwharrie Mountains and the beautiful fall leaves.

Degree of Difficulty: Early climb on this hike with the remainder more gradual. Moderate difficulty.

Dogs: Welcome but must remain on a leash at all times.

Wear comfortable closed toe shoes, bring water and a walking stick if needed. Dress appropriately for a fall hike. Wear long pants due to tall grass during part of this hike. There is no cost to participate, and no pre-registration is needed. If it is raining at the time of the hike, the hike will be cancelled. This hike is open to all who can hike this distance unaided.
