Laurelyn Dossett will headline a music event put together by RhinoLeap Productions which will take place at Starworks in Star on Feb. 2 from 7 to 9 p.m.
STAR — In a special RhinoLeap Crash Radio event set for Monday, Feb. 2, Laurelyn Dossett headlines a group of musicians playing an intimate two-hour concert at the Starworks Cafe. The event will run from 7 to 9 p.m.
Starworks is located at 100 Russell Drive in Star, just south of Asheboro.
The event is sponsored by the Carey & Billie Durham Artwalk at the Historic Luck’s Cannery in Seagrove.
Dossett, an acclaimed singer/songwriter of “Brother Wolf,” “Leaving Eden” and “Beautiful Star” fame, will be joined by solo performances from August Mills, Christen Blanton and Drew Holgate.

Doors open at 6 p.m., which allows patrons to get food or drink at the cafe and to browse the adjacent gallery of amazing glassworks that bring visitors from all over to visit Starworks.
The cafe will have beer, wine, coffee and soft drinks as well as sandwiches and snacks available for sale.
This entire show will be recorded by sound engineer Mark Dillon for later broadcast on WKXR 94.9 FM at 6:15 p.m. on Mondays in March.
The four performers’ sessions will also be added to the NPR queue as Crash Radio is now being syndicated by WFDD 88.5 FM, covering 32 counties.
Pair of comedy shows at Sunset Theatre
ASHEBORO — The Sunset Theatre in downtown Asheboro will be the site for a pair of comedy shows over the next few weeks.
■ First up is the Two Guys Named Chris Comedy Show, returning to Asheboro again on Friday, Jan. 30. One of the shows two Chrises — Chris Kelly — grew up in Asheboro.
Three comedians — E.J. Masicampo, Jeremy Alder and Dave Landau — are set to entertain a Sunset Theatre audience in an event hosted by the syndicated radio show with ties to the area.

■ In early February, a comedian from the national stage pays a visit when Killer Beaz of the TV show “Moonshiners” fame visits the Asheboro stage, also at Sunset Theatre.
After 10 seasons on the Discovery Channel’s hit series, Beaz is heading out on tour with his “Best Buzz In Town” show, which includes the stop in Asheboro on Friday, Feb. 6, at 7:30 p.m.

Bantum Rooster at Sunset Feb. 13
ASHEBORO — Popular local band Bantum Rooster will be playing a Valentine’s Day concert at Sunset Theatre for the first time on Friday, Feb. 13.

RhinoLeap offers cabaret on Feb. 14
ARCHDALE — Looking ahead to Valentine’s Day, local theatre company RhinoLeap has put together an event to help couples celebrate the romantic holidays.
The event includes a three-course meal and live entertainment described as “inspired by the passion of the season.”
It will take place at the Holly Ridge Lodge on US 311 between Randleman and Archdale.
Tickets are $125 per couple. Doors open at 6 with the meal preceding the entertainment, which begins at 7 p.m.

Thrifty Thursday film Feb. 5: ‘Casablanca’
ASHEBORO — The Thrifty Thursday movie for February at Sunset Theatre is the legendary film “Casablanca.”
The showing takes place at 1 p.m. Tickets are $5 for patrons under 50 years of age and include popcorn and a drink. Those older than 50 get in free thanks to local sponsors.
February hike visits Camp Caraway
ASHEBORO — As 2026 heads into high gear, the A# Healthy Communities monthly hikes are resuming.
First up is a hike from Mundo Vista at Camp Caraway to Slip Rock Mountain. These hikes are led by Mary Joan Pugh and involve no cost to participate.
Hikes can meet at the site at 2 p.m. or meet in the parking lot at the Asheboro Farmers Market, 134 S. Park St., at 1:30 p.m. to caravan to the site.
