Last chance for ‘Cinderella’ coming up this week
RSVP’s production of the Broadway version of “Cinderella” finishes up this weekend with 7 p.m. performances Friday and Saturday and a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday.

Movin’ & Groovin’ back-to-school event at mall Aug. 1
ASHEBORO — Asheboro is helping families kick off the school year in style with its Movin’ & Groovin’ Back-to-School Event on Saturday, Aug. 1.
Starting at noon, this free, family friendly celebration will bring together local organizations, retailers and community partners for a high-energy day designed to help students and families wrap up summer and get ready for the year ahead.
Guests can enjoy activities for all ages, live entertainment, retailer promotions and helpful resources from participating organizations — and register to win a giveaway basket packed with back-to-school essentials. There’s no cost to attend.
Farmer Civitans breakfast starts a little early this month
FARMER — The monthly all-you-can-eat Farmer Civitans breakfast, which is open to the public, takes place on Saturday, Aug. 1, with an early morning starting time of 6:30 a.m., giving visitors a little of that “Back To School” early morning wakeup call. It runs till 10 a.m., and for $10, you can enjoy fresh eggs, gravy (white and redeye), hot biscuits, Southern grits with a stick of butter, Thomas Brothers center cut ham and sausage, and fluffy pancakes, with coffee (reg and decaf), orange juice, sodas and water to drink. The Farmer Civitans clubhouse is at 3985 Old NC 49, Asheboro.
Annual Zooland AACA Car Show at Bicentennial Park
ASHEBORO — The local Zooland Region AACA organization will hold its annual car show on Saturday, Aug. 1, at Bicentennial Park in downtown Asheboro. ‘Secondhand Lions’ is this month’s Thrifty Thursday flick
ASHEBORO — The monthly Thrifty Thursday Movie at Sunset Theatre will be on Aug. 6 at 1 p.m. The movie — “Secondhand Lions” — is carried by a star-studded cast, including Robert Duvall, Michael Caine, Haley Joel Osment and Kyra Sedgwick among others, in this coming of age family comedy. Tickets are $5 and include a popcorn and drink. Patrons 50 and older get the ticket for free thanks to local sponsors.
Randleman, Archdale hold outdoor Aug. 7 events
As summer begins to close, two county towns continue to keep fun alive on Aug. 7.
Randleman will hold another in its Market & Music Concert Series in the downtown Commerce Square location. Vendors and food trucks arrive for a 5 p.m. start, and North Tower will be the musical guest and hit the stage from 7 to 10 p.m.
In Archdale, it’s another outdoor movie night in Creekside Park, this time showing “Dogman.” Concessions will be available for purchase, but the movie is free. Just bring a chair or blanket. Check today’s calendar on 5A for more details on both events.
Tea With Seagrove Potters, Summer edition is Aug. 8
SEAGROVE — Twice a year, a group of six Seagrove potters invite the public to visit and enjoy tea and treats from several local businesses. This year’s event is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Blue Hen, Dean & Martin, Eck McCanless, From The Ground Up, Red Hare and Thomas potteries. Each place will offer free snacks, with different iced teas from Carriage House Tea in Asheboro, pastries from Asheboro’s The Table and the Seagrove Cafe, and homemade treats at each of the potteries. All of the shops are located along NC Pottery Highway 705, with maps and brochures at each location.
