Opening reception Sunday at Luck’s for RCC artists

SEAGROVE — On Sunday, March 22, the public is invited to a fun opening reception honoring 15 outstanding past and present art instructors (and graduates) of Randolph Community College’s photography, interior design, advertising and graphic arts departments at the Historic Luck’s Cannery at 798 NC Hwy 705 in Seagrove.

The free event lasts from 2 to 5 p.m. and features live music and refreshments. 

All types of artwork — from paintings and pottery to wooden pieces and photography like this wildlife scene by retired photography department head Greg Stewart of Pittsboro —will be exhibited at the Carey and Billie Durham Artwalk through Memorial Day weekend.

True Grass takes Sunset stage on Friday night

ASHEBORO — Friday Night Bluegrass returns on March 20 with local band True Grass.

The monthly series sponsored by the City of Asheboro features local and area bluegrass bands on the third Friday of each month at Sunset Theatre, 234 Sunset Ave., Asheboro.

True Grass is comprised of local musicians Tim Moon on mandolin, Gary Callicutt on bass, William Britt on guitar, Matthew Nance on banjo and Nolan Moon (Tim’s son) on fiddle.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the concert begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10. 

Two farms host Easter, spring events Saturday

ASHEBORO — Easter may be a couple of weeks away, but two events are set for the outdoors on Saturday, March 21, and open to the public.

■ At 9 a.m., Fairlake Center, 1759 Fairway Road, Asheboro, will be the site for an Easter Egg hunt and more.

Running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., visitors can build the morning around the egg hunt with inflatables for kids, face painting, food, snacks and drinks onsite and free photos with the Easter Bunny.

The event is free. Fairlake Center is a lakeside venue. Call 336-963-7329 for more information.

■ From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Cellar Creek Farm, 3018 Stream Watch Trail, Asheboro, is hosting Spring at the Creek for the first time.

On hand will be food trucks, local vendors, an Easter Bunny to pose with for photos and farm animals to cuddle with, including baby goats and fluffy Highland cows.

Easter Bunny hops into Asheboro Mall on Friday

ASHEBORO — Beginning on Friday, March 20, the Easter Bunny will be at Asheboro Mall to help children create photo moments and Easter memories.

RhinoLeap’s ‘Red’ wraps up this weekend at Starworks

STAR — RhinoLeap’s first production of 2026 wraps an extended stay at Starworks this weekend with shows on four consecutive days.

The production of “Red,” a winner of six Tony Awards, tells the story of one of the greatest visual artists of the 20th century whose struggle to accept his growing fame became his ultimate undoing. 

It stars fellow RhinoLeap performer Kira Geiger as the young assistant to Hollywood actor and North Carolina-based Michael Tourek as Mark Rothko.

Remaining performances are Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 and the link to reserve them can be found on www.rhinoleap.com/live. The Starworks Cafe will be open for food and drinks, and visitors can browse Starworks exhibits while there.

Antiques & Auto Festival March 26-28 in Denton 

DENTON — A year of various events began this month at Denton FarmPark, with one of the highlights an upcoming three-day event March 26 through 28 featuring the Carolina Pickers Antique & Auto Festival.

The cost is reasonable ($7 for 13-up, free for 12-under), the parking is free and pets are allowed on the large FarmPark in Denton that features its own train on a 1.5 mile loop.

Train rides will be available as well as hundreds of antique vendors, live music, cars, live auction with Hathcock Auction, wood carving shows, golf cart rentals and various food vendors.

Gates are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. And if you miss this show, there’s a return event set for Sept. 17 through 19.

City’s Eggstravaganza set for March 28 at Sportsplex 

ASHEBORO — Looking for a family friendly event this Easter?  The annual Easter Eggstravaganza, presented by Asheboro Cultural & Recreation Services is set for Saturday, March 28.

The event is free and takes place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Cone Health ZooCity Sportsplex. This event is rain or shine.

Face painting, inflatables music and more will be part of an event that also includes more than 7,500 candy filled eggs, including prize eggs in every age category.

 Children from the age of 1 – 10 are eligible to participate. (Please note that parents are asked to remain outside of the egg hunt area while children are collecting eggs.) The Easter Bunny will also be available for photos!

Egg hunt times:

— 1-2 year olds at 10 a.m.

— 3-4 year olds at 10:30 a.m.

— 5-7 year olds at 11 a.m.

— 8-10 year olds at 11:30 a.m.
