UpStyled Goods hosts Love Letters in Bloom on Saturday

ASHEBORO — Melanie McGinnis of Asheboro started making paper flowers in early 2020. On Saturday, Feb. 7, she will share her talents with the community at UpStyled Goods in Downtown Asheboro from 10 am to 2 pm.

McGinnis initially learned to make paper flowers for an anniversary party. Excited with how they looked, she learned to make different flowers and designs using pages from vintage books and various fabrics.

What began as a hobby eventually became a small business named Miss Melanie’s Magnolias found on Etsy and Instagram. “I love the creative process and creating unique designs,” she said.

If you are interested in learning more about the art of making paper flowers, visit UpStyled Goods at 122 S. Church Street on the 7th to see the process as well as meet McGinnis. She will be demonstrating and selling her unique flowers in time for Valentine’s Day.

Farmer Civitan breakfast honors clergy, love Feb. 7

FARMER — The Farmer Civitan Club will celebrate two great occasions on Saturday, Feb. 7, during its monthly all-you-can-eat breakfast:

The Civitans this month will honor pastors and spouses with free breakfasts. Plus, as it’s the month of Love with Valentine’s Day approaching, the breakfast offers a chance to visitors to bring their significant others to share a meal.

Says one of the organizers: “We have so many men that come in early for breakfast and do not bring a significant other. They all say the same thing: ‘I didn’t want to wake them up so early.’ I don’t know of many spouses that would not love to have a romantic breakfast with the men in their lives. All you can eat and no dishes to wash may put Cupid’s arrow right where you want

The breakfast, served from 7 to 10 a.m., includes hot biscuits, eggs, gravy (white and redeye), grits, center-cut Thomas Brothers ham and sausage, and fluffy pancakes, plus hot coffee (reg and decaf), cold orange juice, sodas and waters.

Price of admission is a $10 donation, with all proceeds going to support the Civitans and projects.

The Farmer Civitans Clubhouse can be found at the caution light on Old Hwy #49 at the intersection of Dunbar Bridge Road (3986 Old NC 49, Asheboro).
