Halloween events begin this weekend

ASHEBORO — Halloween celebrations are scattered throughout the county for the remainder of October. Here are some of the key one-time events. 

 

Check the events calendar on 5A for regular events, such as haunted houses. And, of course, many area churches have their own Trunk or Treat events.

 

- HABITAT FOR HUMANITY COSTUME BASH, Oct. 28, 7:30-10 p.m. — Tickets are $50 for this event at Pinewood Country Club. Costume contests, heavy hors d’oeuvres, cash bar. Call 336-629-1429 or look for the event on Facebook.

- SPOOKY HALLOWEEN BASH, Oct. 28, 4:30-5:30 p.m. — The Asheboro Public Library promises thrills, chills and a pumpkin or two, beginning with a spooky storytime at 4:30.

- 14TH ANNUAL TRICK OR TREAT IN THE PARK, Oct. 29, 4-6 p.m., Downtown Asheboro — This family-friendly event provides an opportunity for children to dress up in their Halloween costumes and collect candy and other treats in a safe environment. INFO: 336-626-1240.

- RANDOLPH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE 3RD ANNUAL TRUNK OR TREAT, Oct. 29, 5-7 p.m. — In the parking lot of the Sheriff’s Office at 727 McDowell Road, Asheboro. Citizens are invited to bring the kids out for treats. 

- HALLOWEEN HOOTENANNY, Oct. 29, 8-11 p.m., Four Saints Brewing Co., 218 S. Fayetteville St., Asheboro  — Costume party, DJ, light refreshments. No ticket required.

- BOO AT THE ZOO, Oct. 22-23, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. — The popular annual event at the North Carolina Zoo wraps up a two-weekend event this weekend. Visit the African Amphitheatre for games, entertainment and costume contests. Call 800-488-0444.

- FUN ON THE FARM FESTIVAL, Oct. 28-30 — Denton Farm Park has a three-day event set up that includes train rides on its Handy Dandy Rail Road, hay rides, petting zoo, inflatables, face painting and trick-or-treating on Oct. 29 from  5-7 p.m. Admission is $8. Train rides are $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12 and free to children preschool age and under.

These area towns and communities are having free, open events for Halloween fun:

FRANKLINVILLE — Oct. 31, 5-8 p.m., Riverside Park.

LEVEL CROSS — Oct. 29, 7-9 p.m., Level Cross Fire Department, 125 Branson Mill Road, Randleman.

RANDLEMAN — Oct. 31, 5:30-8:30 p.m., Commerce Square in downtown Randleman.

ULAH — Oct. 29, 7-9 p.m., Ulah Fire Department, 2067 Pisgah Covered Bridge Road, Asheboro.
