Commemorating America’s 250th anniversary: A series of events is planned around July 4

ASHEBORO — The City of Asheboro, in partnership with Randolph County, has released a series of events and initiatives as part of the America250 celebration, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Here’s a look:

‘The American Constitution’  documentary screening

May 3

The historic Sunset Theatre will be the site on Sunday, May 3, beginning at 2 p.m. for a special screening of “The American Constitution.”

This compelling documentary brings to life the creation of the US Constitution through the voices of leading scholars and a talented cast portraying the Framers during the summer of 1787 in Philadelphia.

Following the one-hour film, attendees are invited to stay for a discussion with filmmaker David Garrigus. 

This event is hosted by Revolutionary Randolph, Randolph County’s America 250 NC Committee.

America250 Movie Fest at Sunset Theatre

June 29-July 4

Celebrate American history and culture through film during an America250 Movie Fest at Sunset Theatre. 

All movies are free to attend, and concessions will be available for purchase.

Energizer Fireworks Extravaganza

July 1

As part of this year’s celebration, the Asheboro Zookeepers’ annual Energizer Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by the City of Asheboro, will feature an enhanced fireworks show in honor of America250.

The event will take place on Wednesday, July 1 at 6:30 p.m. at McCrary Park.

Downtown Asheboro America250 Enhancements

Residents and visitors can also look forward to the installation of America250 banners throughout downtown Asheboro, coming soon as part of the city’s ongoing celebration efforts.

The community is encouraged to participate in these events as it reflects on our nation’s history and look ahead to its future.
