Annual Field of Honor starts late next week

ASHEBORO — Started in 2016, the Asheboro Field of Honor is a celebration of the heroes in our lives. Four hundred US flags, in perfect rows and columns, represent the individuals who have given of themselves to others, from service men and women, veterans and first-responders to parents, grandparents, teachers, coaches, pastors, friends ...

The field is a visible display of appreciation for those who make a caring community so rich and vibrant. Flags can be purchased and flown for $40 each, with all proceeds going to the Rotary Club of Asheboro Foundation and Veterans Bridge Home.

The event takes place at South Asheboro Middle School on the field facing the corner of US 64 and Park Street. It begins on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 3 p.m., according to the Asheboro Chamber of Commerce website, and the flags will be in place through closing ceremonies at noon on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

When the wind’s blowing and all the flags are waving in the same direction, it’s a sight to see in cars passing by ... and it’s free to stop and visit.
