Miss North Carolina wins talent competition

Miss North Carolina Taylor Loyd won the talent competition at the Miss America preliminary Thursday night, Jan. 11, 2024, at the Hard Rock Theater at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL.

Loyd, the granddaughter of Gary and Peggy Hinshaw of Randleman, sang the French aria Amour ranime mon courage — "The Poison Aria” — from Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet to capture the competition.

The 2024 Miss America Finals Competition is set to take place on Sunday, Jan. 14, beginning at 7 p.m. The event can be streamed live at WatchMissAmerica.com.

Other preliminary competitions take place before then.
