Mariachi Festival in Asheboro

On May 5-6, the City of Asheboro held its first-ever Mariachi Festival downtown.

After the Grammy-winning, all-female Mariachi band Flor de Tolache played in Sunset Theatre on Friday night, several groups performed on Saturday during a daytime festival held in Bicentennial Park.

Among them were dancers from Ballet Folkloric Guadalupano, top, and the Mariachi band Mariachi Viva Mexico, above. In between the musical performances, people were invited to take part in a taco-eating contest.
