Asheboro actress stars in ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’

Elizabeth Lail, a 2009 Asheboro High School graduate and daughter of Dean and Kay Lail of Asheboro, is one of the stars of the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” movie currently at the Cinemark theater in Asheboro Mall.

The movie has been a surprise hit, with its take of $80 million on opening weekend setting a box office record for a horror movie opening in October.

Yes, you read that right. Step aside, previous record-holder “Halloween.”

A PG-13 rating and simultaneous streaming on Peacock helped the “Freddy’s” push, as well as being based on a video game of the same name. It’s success will likely spawn at least one sequel, if not multiple ones, as the combined domestic and worldwide box office has already topped $200 million, returning 10-fold the cost of the budget for the movie.

Currently, she lives in New York City with her husband.
