24th MLK March set for Jan. 15

ASHEBORO — The Asheboro/Randolph County Branch of the NAACP is honoring Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 15 with its 24th MLK March.

The march is set to start at approximately 10:30 a.m. at Central Gym, directly after the Eastside Improvement Association Community Breakfast. The route will be from Central Gym to the Old Courthouse.

“This March signifies that we are not giving up,” said Clyde Foust Jr., President of the Asheboro/Randolph County Branch of the NAACP. “This is a tradition in Asheboro. It amplifies the message that the fight for civil rights is continuous, and it inspires a renewed commitment to fostering a society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background. It is important to recognize that, while progress has been made, there is still work to be done to address systemic inequalities.”

Rides will be available for those who want to participate in the March, but are unable to walk the distance. There will be water and hot chocolate available, and speakers at the Courthouse.

The public is invited to participate.

The Community Breakfast starts at 8 a.m. at  Central Gym and will feature a guest panel.
