Collective Interiors moves into larger downtown Asheboro space

ASHEBORO — A move to a larger space will allow Amy Barney to expand the services offered by Collective Interiors.

After several years at 113 N. Church St., Asheboro, Collective Interiors is now open at 129 Sunset Ave., which includes a second floor. Barney has filled the ground floor with furniture and accessories with plans to use the upper floor for a design studio.

With retail sales downstairs, Barney will use the second floor for her concierge design business. She said she’s aiming for a September opening to do the custom services. When it’s open, the design services will require clients to book an appointment.

That was part of the problem with the Church Street location, Barney said. Retail products and design items were being confused by customers. With the move to Sunset Avenue, retail and custom services will be completely separate.

Barney stocks her Collective Interiors retail floor mainly with Rowe Furniture upholstered products, hand-crafted in Virginia. The 80-year-old manufacturer focuses on quality, comfort and design, offering sofas, chairs, recliners, sectionals, even tables.

The store also offers high-end jewelry, sunglasses, pillows, lamps and art works. “Anything for the home,” Barney said.

Those wishing to individualize their home interiors will be able to access Barney’s design instincts. Once the upstairs studio is available, clients will enjoy the privacy of the studio to customize with fabrics, cushions, wallpaper, drapery, rugs, even lighting.

Collective Interiors will deliver furniture, Barney said, adding that her customer base extends outside North Carolina.

The business hours are Tuesday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Barney hosts a Facebook Live show at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays. Her website is www.collectiveinteriorsnc.com, where customers can shop or visit the design studio. Once the second floor is ready, clients can make appointments on the website.
