Cloud Wine opens in downtown Asheboro

ASHEBORO — Marco Layedra is offering downtown Asheboro a ride on Cloud Wine.

A New Jersey native, Layedra has been in Asheboro for six or seven years with a furniture delivery business. Now he’s looking to do something different.

Cloud Wine, located at 103 N. Fayetteville St. (previous home of Bold Coffee and before that Mike’s Chicago Dog), opened April 10 and serves wine, craft beer and cocktails. The wine list will include brands from France and Italy as well as local wineries.

In addition, customers can get cold cuts, sandwiches and wraps. Soon, Layedra plans to have a full kitchen with a menu that will offer Italian, Caribbean and other dishes. He said he’ll change things up every so often.

Customers can sit at the bar, at tables or on stools at the front windows. There’s a comfortable lounge in the rear of the building as well as seats out front.

Asked how Cloud Wine will be different from other downtown establishments, Layedra said, “The vibe, very hospitable with different food. I want it to be upscale but approachable.”

His idea for Cloud Wine is to “bring a more distinct crowd, with light music, instrumentals, and relaxed, so people can enjoy each other.”

During his time in Asheboro, he said he’s been to all the local establishments and likes the environment. “I love Asheboro. The people are very friendly. I’m looking to add to that.

“We’re not here to compete,” he said. “We’re our own place. I want everybody to succeed.”

Even in Layedra’s short time here, he says, “Downtown has grown a lot. I’m looking forward to being more a part of the community, to bring something to Asheboro that people are going to love.”

Cloud Wine is closed on Mondays, open from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and from 3 to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
