Chevy dealer gets award from honoring veterans

The owner of Wayne Thomas Chevrolet was recognized Feb. 19 during a meeting at the dealership.

The event has been held at Wayne Thomas Chevrolet, 1400 E. Dixie Drive, every year from its beginning in 2013 through 2023. Planning by the Honoring Our Veterans board of directors is held in meetings every year at the dealership.

The event raises money primarily for the Randolph County Veterans Council, which assists veterans with needs such as paying rent and utility bills or helping with home maintenance. Some of the funds have gone to the Randolph County Honor Guard to purchase new rifles for military honors at funerals of veterans. Since its inception, Honoring Our Veterans has raised more than $180,000.

McGrady said of the event, “Nothing but good stuff comes out of this.”

After receiving the plaque, Thomas said, “We really appreciate this.”
