Chamber of Commerce seeks nominations for awards

ASHEBORO — The Annual Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce Awards will be held on Friday, March 20. These annual awards celebrate what is great in Randolph County with individuals and businesses recognized for their achievements. 

Nominations are welcome from the community and the members of the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce. Scan the UR code shown here to be taken directly to the nomination form.

The deadline for submitting nominations is Feb. 27.

As for the awards, here is a breakdown for each and criteria that should be considered in make a nomination.

Overall Criteria: Qualified organizations and community leaders should actively demonstrate positive support and growth of the community. They should be examples of the Chamber’s Mission “To make Asheboro and Randolph County a great place to live, work, and do business.”

Nominees must be current Chamber members in good standing at the time of nomination. Not sure if a business is a member? Contact the chamber for answers.

The awards:

Citizen of the Year

Nominees should:

■ Demonstrate excellence and professionalism as a member of the business and/or social community.

■ Demonstrate positive support and be an active participant in the continued growth and enhancement of the community.

■ Be actively involved in community, civic, social and business organizations.

■ Be actively involved in community projects, special events, fundraisers, etc.

■  Be willing to take a stand and even the lead position on public issues that affect the community.n Be a recognized leader among leaders in their profession and their community and serve as a role model for others.

■ Be someone whose opinion is sought and respected on issues of importance to the community.

ATHENA Leadership Award

Nominees must meet each of the following  criteria:

■ Demonstrate excellence, creativity and initiative in their business or profession.

■ Provide valuable service to improve the quality of life for others in their community.

■ Actively assist women in achieving their full leadership potential.

■ ATHENA Leadership Award Nominees may represent either the profit or not-for-profit sector.

■ Previous ATHENA Leadership Award Recipients are not eligible for nomination, however past nominees may be nominated again.

■ There is no minimum or maximum age qualification that must be met by ATHENA Leadership Award Nominees.

Emerging Leader of the Year (39 or younger)

Nominees should:

■ Demonstrate integrity.

■ Give to others (in the way of service) in order to improve the community.

■ Evolves to meet changes and challenges, thinks outside the box, is creative.

■ Someone that is fun – doesn’t take themselves too seriously, is spirited and inspiring.

Business of the Year

■ The business needs to be at least three years old. 

■ The business is NOT a producer or manufacturer of product but deliverer of service or retail. 

■ Their business has to demonstrate what it has done for the local community. 

Industry of the Year 

■ The business needs to be at least three years old. 

■ The business is a producer or manufacturer of product and NOT a deliverer of service or retail. 

■ Their business has to determine what it has done for the local community.   

Volunteer of the Year 

■ The individual has to be an employee or volunteer as a Chamber member. 

■ The individual must have clearly demonstrated that they have gone above and beyond in their volunteering to enhance their community in Randolph County. 

■ They must embody the mentality “All give some but some give all.” 

Nonprofit of the Year 

■ The nonprofit needs to be based and operating in Randolph County. 

■ How it has identified a community need and addressed such, including through the provision of advocacy as well as direct delivery?

■ How has it been able to build sustainability into its delivery?

■ How has it been able to enhance deliver and impact through collaboration with stakeholder partner organizations? 

■ What does it do that it is innovative or how has it incorporated innovation into its delivery?
